For kids struggling in school, CASA Volunteers work to identify barriers to attendance, access community resources, and improve the student’s attendance and academic success. Children with a CASA Volunteer are more likely to find a safe, permanent home, more likely to succeed in school, and half as likely to re-enter the foster care system. At a CASA 101 session, you will hear from members of the CASA team about the important work our advocates are doing in the community. You will learn about our volunteer opportunities and associated responsibilities, the application and training process, time commitment, and next steps on how you can get involved. Please note that in order to become a CASA Volunteer, you must be 21+ years of age, must complete several background checks and fingerprinting, and must have lived in the United States for the past 7 years. This virtual CASA 101 will take place on Thursday, February 6th from 6:00-7:00 PM via Zoom! If you are interested in attending, please contact Josie Martinez, Community Engagement Manager, at josie@casa17th.com for registration information. For more information, please visit CASA17th.org.

  • Be a lifeline to an isolated senior - become their phone buddy!

Loneliness in our elderly population is a growing problem in our country. Millions of seniors are disconnected from friends and family, many without a computer or car to engage with the outside world. They feel forgotten. As a result, their emotional and physical health has been severely compromised. Loneliness-induced depression, heart disease, obesity, and other diseases have increased for seniors in the last few years. Friendly Voices weekly phone buddies provide a vital human connection to the most needy seniors in our society. You will be a lifeline - a warm voice, an empathic presence, a consistent and reliable friend. The next volunteer training will take place in May, 2025. To be considered for training, you'll complete an online application, a phone interview, and a reference check. Please contact our volunteer recruitment coordinator marcia@friendlyvoices.org for more details. What to expect as a Friendly Voices volunteer: 60-90 minutes time investment per week. You'll be matched with 2 seniors, each of whom you'll call every week at a scheduled day/time. Each phone conversation is about 30 minutes. Typically these conversations are on weekdays between 9am-5pm PT. (We primarily serve clients in California.) Age 40+ preferred. Please note that we will reply to your message from marcia@friendlyvoices.org. Please check your spam folder if you don't receive our reply!

Every month, your penpal will send you a letter and then you will write back. Each letter is guided by an NTS staff member, so you'll have plenty of support. Over 900 organizations self-registered on the platform from over 72 countries and 30 U.S. states and territories. In addition to a new and improved UI, the new version of the site will be implementing AWS Lambda microservices, Java/Spring/Maven, React, and DynamoDM, GraphQL, MYSQL, AWS, and more. Disaster Accountability Project was founded after Hurricane Katrina to improve effectiveness in disaster relief and humanitarian aid. SmartResponse was designed to curate localized "how to help" lists to help donors identify and directly support local nonprofits after disasters in the U.S. and globally. Too often, donations are delayed and diverted before reaching the ground. We are not an intermediary -- we simply serve as a clearinghouse/resource and do not handle donations intended for local nonprofits. Members of the team code review/test each other's work before we merge so this aspect would be shared by team. Role Requirements: Must have a GitHub account and understand how to fork, branch, make pull requests and use command line. Role Duration: Minimum 7 hours/week for at least 4-6 months To Apply, please send Resume/CV to: volunteer@disasteraccountability.org. Thank you!

Ever wonder how you can help? Ever feel alone yourself? consider that there are folks out there that would LOVE to have chat with you, go with you to the grocery store or just sit together and talk about the Good Old Days ...If all of us gave one hour of your time to another We could eliminate so much loneliness, isolation and food insecurities. Consider volunteering in a program today. Our Friendly Visitor Program offers an opportunity to visit someone in their home. folks are looking for a connection with someone willing to sit with them and have a conversation and fill the void of a limited social network. some individuals would love to go to the grocery store and pick out their own food instead of having it delivered or pay someone to pick it up. and how about going for a walk, the senior center and/or the gym! Our Non-Emergency Medical Chaperone Program offers companionship to individuals while traveling to and from their doctor appointments. some folks need a little encouragement and support in getting to and from their appointments as transportation services are curb to curb and they may need help getting to that curb. It is amazing how just a few hours of your time and attention can make a world of difference to another person within your own community. Volunteers need to be over the age of 21, complete and application, pass a background check, which requires a government issued ID, and Social Security, and we request proof of Covid vaccination. Training is provided by the Agency on Aging of South Central CT’s Volunteer program. Give us a call and see who's looking for support in your area.

    Stamford, CT 06902
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Hospice volunteers give their time and talents to help the patients and families served by Constellation Health Services. Volunteers perform many important duties. Whether providing companionship in a patient’s home or facility, volunteers play a vital role that enables the hospice to more fully meet the community’s needs. Volunteers provide companionship to both the patient and family caregiver. They are a caring, friendly face for conversation, reading, playing games, watching TV, listening to music, and sharing stories. Volunteer visits may also offer respite to the family caregiver, who can take a break from caregiving while the volunteer is visiting. Constellation patient visit volunteers need not have any special abilities, all we ask is for reliability and compassion. However, we are open to trained Reiki Masters, pet therapists, musicians, etc. Masks, hand sanitizer, and other PPD provided.

    Fairfield, CT 06824
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

A hospice volunteer is someone who wants to make a difference. Our volunteers help by bringing joy to patients and families, offering companionship and compassionate presence, among many other things. The rewards of hospice volunteering are meaningful and powerful, enriching ourselves as we provide care for others. We provide training that is uplifting, as well as informative, and can be done at your own pace. We practice all COVID safety control measures and provide PPE.
