Help spread the lighted cheer this holiday season by delivering and/or picking up animal silhouettes to our business partners in PhinneyWood. Ideally, two volunteers will work together - one to drive, the other to hop in and out of the car to deliver. Delivery in late November, pick up in early January. Help us rake leaves (and later shovel snow) at the Greenwood Senior Center or the Phinney Center. One time, or lots of times, by yourself, or with others. We’ll take all the sweat you’re willing to give :) Flexible schedule, 1-3 hrs at a time, sign up & we can let you know when we need your muscle, ahem, help! Great opportunity for families with kids, high school students needing hours, or people missing their grandparents. Come by yourself or with a friend. Signing up here will add you to our volunteer mailing list (for raking & shoveling snow). We'll email you when the leaves start to fall & you let us know if you are available then!

Virtual Opportunity
Help us connect with each other, in the old-fashioned way! Seniors are needed to help kids learn the art of letter writing, practice penmanship and communicate with an adult outside their household. And kids are needed to write back! Both get snail mail and a new friend in the process! We match up kids with seniors (or kids with other kids, if preferred), make introductions and send writing prompts. We currently have pen pals in 46 states, and are aiming to get participation from all 50 states, plus DC and Puerto Rico. Learn more and sign up: https://www.phinneycenter.org/pen-pal/

Volunteers needed to help members one-on-one with their smart phones, tablets, laptops or eReaders. Questions are usually pretty basic: how to attach a photo to an email, how to set up an Instagram account, how to follow the Pope on Twitter, etc. Flexible schedule (you pick a mutually convenient time). Background check required & 6-month commitment requested. Great for high school students looking for an ongoing position. Mentors typically meet "clients" in-person at the Greenwood Senior Center (M-F, 9:30AM to 4:30PM), or at the Phinney Center (M-F, 9AM to 8PM, or Sat 9AM to 4PM). If you are interested in this opportunity for service hours, this is a great direct-service, intergenerational, opportunity. We’ve found volunteers are most successful when they are able to make a longer-termed commitment (6+ months) in order to accumulate the number of required hours. To give you an idea of how many hours you might get, we generally get 8 to 10 requests for help per month, and currently have a pool of about 15 volunteers.
