Translation Commons is currently in need of volunteers to translate and review from English into the main 5 UN languages: French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese. Translators will have full visibility and online acknowledgment. We are only looking for professional translators or language program college students. Volunteers must be over 18 years old. The material translated will be for UNESCO's International Decade of Indigenous Languages as well as our website pages on the work we do for the above. This is a great opportunity for both less experienced translators wanting to gain experience, and more experienced professionals hoping to contribute to an international volunteering organization. Marketing Group Manager, Marketing Group (Volunteer ) Translation Commons is looking for a creative and motivated leader to take up the volunteer position of Marketing Group Manager. Each group has two managers working in conjunction with each other to establish and manage a team of volunteers to fulfill the functions of the Marketing Group. This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to an international volunteer organization and to share your expertise. The Marketing Group is responsible for fulfilling the marketing needs of Translation Commons. This includes social media management, market research, SEO consulting, and more. Through this position, you will learn the inner workings of the marketing department of a non-profit organization focused on languages. This role will help you pursue careers in social media management, marketing localization, marketing research, and multilingual SEO. This is a volunteer and remote opportunity. Responsibilities include: Working with the group advisor to develop and improve frameworks and communication channels for the different processes within the Marketing Group; Creating roles that need to be filled within the Marketing Group and interviewing volunteers to fill these roles; Managing and motivating the Marketing Group to ensure that progress is being made; Delegating tasks to Marketing Group volunteers to ensure the functioning of the group; Making final decisions related to the Marketing Group; Being the central point of contact for all Marketing needs; Acting as owners on the Group’s G-Suite and adding members and access rights; Being ultimately responsible for the deliverables produced by the group. We are looking for individuals with the following qualifications: Ability to motivate and inspire volunteers; Visionary outlook of the group’s contribution to TC’s mission; A "go-getter" attitude and the ability to take initiative to develop new goals for the Marketing Group; Ability to identify problems and to use creativity and initiative to solve them; Strong project management skills; Strong communication skills and ability to lead meetings; Weekly commitment of at least 5 hours per week. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including articles, videos, and technical documentation, based on your experience and availability. Responsibilities Translate source material into the target language Follow Style Guide and Glossary Use a CAT Tool (Smartcat) for translation or reviews Communicate with project managers of questions, issues, or delays with project Reviewers only Review translations against the source content, correcting errors and ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to language assets Note ambiguous terms for future Termbase development Provide constructive feedback to translators General Qualifications Fluent or native speaker of the target language Experience or interest in translating or reviewing diverse content types Ability to commit to volunteering a minimum of 2hrs a week when a project is assigned to them.

This is a great opportunity for you to gain valuable experience within a thriving international non-profit organization. You will work together with the Talent Coordination and Group Managers to interview and help the new volunteers in their on-boarding process This is a volunteer and remote opportunity. Responsibilities include: Manage TC volunteers’ signups through the Master Volunteer Google spreadsheet As the first TC point of contact to applicants, lead the Meet & Greet meetings (i.e. interviews with new volunteers and record the interviewees’ answers) Manage the allocation of both new and ongoing volunteers to Groups Monitor volunteer status (active or inactive) and redirect volunteers from inactive to active groups (coordinates with Engagement Group), update Master Volunteer Spreadsheet Field and answer questions, problems, requests, and issues from volunteers We are looking for individuals with the following qualifications: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a particular focus on intercultural contexts Familiarity with technology (Google Spreadsheet, Google Calendar, etc.) Interested in acquiring translation and community management experience Weekly commitment of 5 hours per week.
