Looking for a hands-on volunteer opportunity that works around your schedule? Are you handy with a hammer? Join our Honey Do Crew. Honey Do Crew volunteers work to keep older adults safe in their homes through small home repairs and maintenance projects. Our volunteers can often help with projects such as a step repair or installing grab bars and hand rails. After we receive an application from a care receiver, a project manager evaluates the project before a volunteer is assigned. This helps us match you with a project best suited for your skill level. Through your service you can help Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley enhance the dignity and quality of life for all people in our community, neighbor to neighbor. This program has proven very popular and effective for folks interested in serving the older adults in our community. Our Honey Do Crews assist with minor home repair and maintenance projects. Our volunteers have a unique and wonderful flexibility to select which opportunities speak to their hearts and to perform as many or as few hours of service per month as they like. All volunteers are required to attend ONE Volunteer Orientation Training session. These individual (or bring a friend) training sessions are a little bit shorter than our larger hosted events, and a whole lot more personal. Interested? Reach out today and let's chat! Do you like making new friends and talking on the phone? Connect with an older adult in your community through our reassurance calls program. This program is intended for our care receivers who may live alone, have little or no contact with others on a daily basis, or may have a medical condition that makes them vulnerable. Volunteers are encouraged to call their care receiver/s once a week to check-in. These calls reduce social isolation and reconnect our care receivers to the community. Through your service you can help Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley enhance the dignity and quality of life for all people in our community, neighbor to neighbor. Looking for a volunteer opportunity built around your schedule? Volunteer to drive older adults to the grocery store, shop for them, or pick up & deliver orders placed online. Food insecurity is a concern for many older adults. Imagine not being able to drive to the grocery store or being unable to walk through the aisles because of mobility problems. Our grocery volunteers drive care receivers to the grocery store and assist with shopping if needed, or the volunteer will pick up their grocery list and money and shop for the care receiver. We are also seeing an increase in requests for simple pick-up and delivery of grocery orders placed online. Volunteers will also assist care receivers with bringing groceries in and putting them away if needed. This is a one-on-one volunteer opportunity. Volunteers are matched with a care receiver to assist once per month and plan shopping events directly to accommodate each other’s schedules. Like our medical transportation, volunteers use their own vehicles and establish their own criteria of time and geographical areas where they wish to drive. Family support and public transportation are not consistently available to older adults that no longer drive. Without transportation, older adults lose their independence and are denied access to basic living services such as getting to medical appointments, buying groceries, or accessing social services. As a volunteer, you can help fulfill a need and make a connection with the older adults in your community. Through your service you can help Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley enhance the dignity and quality of life for all people in our community, neighbor to neighbor.
