RSVP volunteers 55 and older provide companionship and emotional support to terminally ill patients in Amherst, Springfield, or Northampton, MA, in a Hospice facility or in the patient's home. Training, a CORI check and ongoing supervision is required. Volunteers do not give hands-on or medical care. RSVP volunteers also provide fund raising support to Hospice Programs by helping in Northampton and Amherst thrift shops. These shops provide financial support to the hospice programs. Provide support to help Pioneer Valley seniors stay independent at home. Through RSVP, volunteers 55 and older can provide a variety of essential services: Money Management volunteers with financial skills visit seniors at home and assist with bill paying. Home Energy and Repair volunteers help seniors locate benefits for energy and home repair needs. SHINE volunteers help with Medicare related questions and choices on a one-to-one basis in senior centers and hospitals and virtually. Good interpersonal, computer and financial skills are needed. Schedules and locations vary. CORI and driver's license are required. Training and support is provided. Help seniors in the Pioneer Valley connect with the changing world by teaching classes on basic computer skills, internet/email access, and use of websites. Through RSVP, volunteers 55 and older teach in a Senior Center computer lab or use tech skills to help area nonprofits build and maintain databases, websites, newsletters and other marketing projects. RSVP volunteers 55 and older help nonprofit thrift shops, hospital and senior center gift shops and coffee shops to raise funds in support of new programs and equipment. Volunteers work together in teams and need some cash handling skills, the ability to lift up to 10 pounds, good people skills, and the ability to stand unassisted for 3 hours. CORI and training required. Volunteers can craft items for sale in the gift and thrift shops to raise funds. Coffe Shop volunteers make and sell snacks to benefit the organization. Train to lead RSVP's award-winning Healthy Bones & Balance classes! Help seniors stay strong and active. RSVP-trained Volunteer Leaders, 55 years or older, lead exercise classes held in senior and community centers once to three times a week in 27 area towns in the Pioneer Valley.
