We are Mentor a Promise, a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to work with students that reside in NYC shelters to create a comprehensive individualized career plan. The focus is to improve educational outcomes, promote positive development and social-emotional growth. We need a nonprofit attorney to serve as primary contact for legal programs in the preparation of new proposals and contract renewals to ensure high quality proposal, compliance with solicitation requirements and timely submission. We need your help to be involved in the day-to-day operations. We need your help to review and refine onboarding protocols and ensure high quality training for new Mentors, as well as ongoing training to support the needs of existing staff. We need your help to monitor legal practice across all programs to ensure a high standard of representation and services.

About Mentor A Promise: Mentor A Promise is a non-profit organization, and our mission is to provide socio-emotional learning, academic support, and mentorship to students in temporary housing and facing housing instability. We partner with family temporary housing sites across New York, educational institutions, and community organizations to create a strong support network for young people experiencing homelessness, helping them overcome challenges and forge their own path to success. Position Overview: As a Mentor, you will be a positive role model, advocate, and resource for our students, fostering an environment of inclusivity, empowerment, and mutual support. Key Responsibilities: · Help guide our students on their journey to self-awareness in and out of the classroom · Assist in identifying students’ academic challenges · Inspire our students to develop a love of reading and the English language through literacy activities · Inspire our students to develop a love of math by using workbooks and assisting with math homework · Work in small groups or one-on-one to help our students increase their competence in core socio-emotional learning skills and responsible decision-making · Guide our students on their journey to self-awareness and social awareness both in and out of the classroom Position Requirements: · Must be 18 years of age or older · Must be local to the NYC area to volunteer in person · Must be willing to undergo a background check and training · Must be willing to commit to a minimum of one (1) hour per week for a period of six (6) months Desired Qualifications: · Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for making a difference · Strong organizational and communication skills · Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously Apply Now! We are looking for a compassionate, highly-motivated, organized, intuitive Art Teacher with a passion for working with young people from underrepresented communities. We expect to have 10-20 students enrolled in this program and it will take place in person on the designated shelter (to be determined). You will meet with young people regularly at an after-school schedule to create art, while listening, advising, connecting with them. We want to work with you, even if you have little to no previous experience, but can demonstrate a commitment to issues of social justice and anti-racism. We are Mentor a Promise, a nonprofit organization working with students residing in temporary housing in NYC. We are looking for an intake coordinator. The primary job responsibilities of the intake coordinator are as follows: Taking messages and leaving them in the appropriate place for staff members; Speaking to each prospective volunteer or different stakeholders Performing preliminary intake or screening interview, including preparation of appropriate forms, which may require occasional typing; Conducting screenings of families for MAp's services including academic support and mentorship Recording necessary demographic data, determination of eligibility, and scope of the family's request for services; Coordinating follow-up services, including appointments, referrals, correspondence, and gathering documents and other information; Opening and closing files for families, sites and other partners Providing applicants and families with information, referrals and/or advice under the supervision of staff members; Using language-assistance resources, including translation and interpretation services available to assist clients and community members; Maintaining familiarity with and using internal and external resources to provide referrals; Answering questions and helping to acclimate staff to intake procedures; Distributing basic client service information materials; Maintaining client-related files, including copying, scanning, uploading and distributing documents.
