About Mentor A Promise:

Mentor A Promise is a non-profit organization, and our mission is to provide socio-emotional learning, academic support, and mentorship to students in temporary housing and facing housing instability. We partner with family temporary housing sites across New York, educational institutions, and community organizations to create a strong support network for young people experiencing homelessness, helping them overcome challenges and forge their own path to success. Position Overview:

As a Mentor, you will be a positive role model, advocate, and resource for our students, fostering an environment of inclusivity, empowerment, and mutual support.

Key Responsibilities:

· Help guide our students on their journey to self-awareness in and out of the classroom

· Assist in identifying students’ academic challenges

· Inspire our students to develop a love of reading and the English language through literacy activities

· Inspire our students to develop a love of math by using workbooks and assisting with math homework

· Work in small groups or one-on-one to help our students increase their competence in core socio-emotional learning skills and responsible decision-making

· Guide our students on their journey to self-awareness and social awareness both in and out of the classroom

Position Requirements:

· Must be 18 years of age or older

· Must be local to the NYC area to volunteer in person

· Must be willing to undergo a background check and training

· Must be willing to commit to a minimum of one (1) hour per week for a period of six (6) months

Desired Qualifications:

· Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for making a difference

· Strong organizational and communication skills

· Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
