We do this by connecting consumers and producers; supporting equitable distribution of food resources; removing barriers to access; including stakeholders in decision making; providing food justice education and advocacy; and engaging with community partners. As a Farmers Market Champion Volunteer, you will assist in ensuring markets are operating smoothly and efficiently. The support given will foster a thriving local food system that is necessary to connect our small local producers and consumers. This is an in-person role, weekends & holidays, markets typically run 9a - 2p, May - October. farmers market location sites available in St. Lawrence County (Canton, Gouverneur, Potsdam, Massena). Responsibilities can include market setup and breakdown including booth and signage; operating and educating about the farmers market token system; providing customer and vendor support; and participating in outreach activities to raise awareness about the farmers markets. Qualifications include a passion for local food system and community building, effective communication skills, basic technology skills to operate the token system, ability to lift and move market equipment (totes, signs, tent, table) is a plus. Our vision at Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is that no one goes hungry in Los Angeles County. The Food Bank’s volunteer department engages more than 15,000 volunteers annually. The Food Bank currently distributes food to more than 800,000 people each month. To reach these many people, the Food Bank relies on the support of volunteers who inspect, sort, and pack donated food before it goes out for distribution. As a Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Food Sorter/Packer you will help assemble food packages inside our distribution center for over 27,000 low-income seniors, women with infants, and children in Los Angeles County. Volunteers are able to lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods of time with breaks in between (up to 3 hours). Comfortable completing repetitive tasks and working indoors. Hours are 4-8 hours a week for 4 months. Tuesday - Friday 9 am - 12 pm and 1 pm - 3:30 pm. Location: Industry, CA 90601. As a Day Center Assistant Volunteer you will assist with serving meals, washing dishes, assisting with food deliveries, and maintaining the cleanliness of the dining space. This is an in-person role, averaging 4 hours per week. You determine your schedule; the hours range from Sunday to Friday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Closed on Holidays. Requested length of service: 3 months. Volunteers will attend a 30-45-minute orientation where the Day Center Manager will give a brief tour of the space, answer questions, and go over safety measures.
