Achievement Plus is a 20+ year partnership between The Amherst H. Wilder Foundation and Saint Paul Public Schools in support of student and family success. One of our locations is Bruce Vento, a pre-K - 5th grade elementary school on the East Side of Saint Paul. We are seeking volunteers who will be assigned to a specific Vento classroom to provide support to the teaching staff. This is a great opportunity for anybody interested in working with young children on basic academic and social-emotional skills. Supportive adults are always welcome in the classroom and your time and effort will be a great benefit in helping young students stay relaxed, focused, and learning throughout the day. Responsibilities: Attend site-based orientation and training with Achievement Plus and Vento staff Play, lead activities, and engage in conversation with students one-to-one and in small groups Help support small groups with simple academic and art assignments (small groups normally start a month or two after school begins) Help facilitate/keep students on task during literacy/math class Be an extra adult for students to connect with (play with during active learning/pull to play games or read) Take students on movement breaks/walks around classroom space Qualifications: Be 18 years of age or older Experience and/or passion for working with children Ability to interact with and assist children of varying backgrounds, cultures and identities, including race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, ability or disability, age, gender, gender expression, religion, etc. Ability to have consistent attendance over the course of the school year (kids will be expecting you!) This teacher-support role is a great opportunity for anybody interested in working with young children (K - 5 th grade) in an active and fun manner. Supportive adults are always welcome in the classroom and your time and effort will be a great benefit in helping young students stay safe and have fun in a learning environment. Responsibilities: Attend site-based orientation and training with Achievement Plus and YMCA/Beacons staff Assist and work with a YMCA/Beacons lead teacher in planning and facilitating program activities Facilitate and support positive classroom behavior Provide small group pull outs and support transitions between activities Support day-to-day program operations and preparation to the start of afterschool programming Qualifications: Be 18 years of age or older Experience and/or passion for working with children Ability to interact with and assist children of varying backgrounds, cultures and identities, including race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, ability or disability, age, gender, gender expression, religion, etc. Ability to have consistent attendance over the course of the school year (kids will be expecting you!) Wilder Center welcomes many visitors each day in our bustling event center. Wilder Center offers small-to-large capacity conference auditorium and meeting room rentals for nonprofit, government agency or corporate events. We are seeking on-call volunteers to provide support at least once per month with setup and take down of chairs and tables in our large auditorium space. This is a physical role requiring the ability to lift chairs, push chair movers, or roll out tables following the desired configuration. Your support is critical to help us improve effectiveness and minimize time taken to set up during our busy event season! Qualifications: Be 18 years of age or older. Ability to interact with and assist people of varying backgrounds, cultures and identities, including race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, ability, gender, gender expression, religion, etc. Be able to physically stand for the duration of a 1 to 3-hour shift with limited breaks. Be able to push up to 200 pounds and lift up to 50 pounds. Strong attention to detail. Schedule and Location: Total time requirement: Minimum 3-month commitment to being on the on-call list. Volunteers commit to a minimum of one shift per month for 1-3 hours. You can commit to morning, afternoon and/or evening time frames. Parents and guardians can expect the highest quality learning and care for their children ages 16 months to 5 years with year-round enrollment at Wilder’s Child Development Center. Our staff and teachers continually recognize and strive to meet the diverse needs, abilities, interests, and cultures of children and families, where each person is valued and respected as a contributor in our classroom environment. We would love to have an individual or pair share your knowledge about soccer, basketball, kickball, and/or baseball/softball with our students ages 2 to 5 on a regular weekly basis. You will prepare a quick lesson and then play with the kids. Responsibilities: Prepare activity content prior to your volunteer shift each week and connect with staff to develop plans Provide a brief interactive weekly or bi-weekly lesson with kids at our Child Development Center (nothing too technical - just the basics!) Support our kids in playing the sport or game; younger kids may be solely play time and may involve more than one sport Option to volunteer solo or volunteer with friends or teammates; volunteers must be age 16 and up Benefits: Connect with local students and help them grow through sports. Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver noon meals to older adults and people with limited mobility in the Saint Paul area. You can volunteer solo, with a friend or family member, or with a work or community group for a 1.5-hour shift from 10:30am-12pm on an on-call basis. Responsibilities include utilizing your own vehicle to pick up meals from our location and dropping off at community members' homes. Routes may include downtown Saint Paul and non-downtown routes. Mileage reimbursement is available. Join us and support the well-being and independence of your neighbors! *Note: We have had an influx of over 50 new recipients since January, so we have several openings for volunteer drivers.
