We are seeking to offer support to the YMCA/Beacons Afterschool Program at Bruce Vento Elementary. This teacher-support role is a great opportunity for anybody interested in working with young children (K - 5 th grade) in an active and fun manner. Supportive adults are always welcome in the classroom and your time and effort will be a great benefit in helping young students stay safe and have fun in a learning environment.

  • Assist and work with a YMCA/Beacons lead teacher in planning and facilitating program activities

  • Support day-to-day program operations and preparation to the start of afterschool programming

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Experience and/or passion for working with children
  • Ability to interact with and assist children of varying backgrounds, cultures and identities, including race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, ability or disability, age, gender, gender expression, religion, etc.
  • Ability to have consistent attendance over the course of the school year (kids will be expecting you!)
  • Complete a background check (Wilder covers the cost)
  • Volunteers should wear comfortable and nonrestrictive clothes that they don’t mind getting messy as roles are hands-on and may require bending, sitting on the floor or chasing little ones
  • Patience while working with young children
  • Energetic but calming spirit
  • Able to self-direct in interactions with children
  • Helpful demeanor and strong customer service
  • Highly respectful of confidentiality

Benefits to Volunteering:

  • Connect with East Side elementary-aged students and help them grow through afterschool activities and social interaction.

  • Be a part of history and watch the new Bruce Vento building being built next door!

Schedule and Location:

  • Timing: Select one 2.5-3.5 hour shift per week; options Mon. - Thurs., 12:00-4:00pm
