We have volunteer opportunities at the Leucadia and Hillcrest farmers markets every Sunday. Join a team of volunteers for just over an hour to recover leftover produce at the end of the farmers' market. You'll be handing bins out to farmers, collecting them once they're full of produce, and loading them into the transport vehicle(s). Each pick event starts with instructions from a volunteer leader who will tell you the best methods for picking fruit, using picker poles, and discerning fruit ripeness. We pick oranges, lemons, tangelos, tangerines, limes, and avocados on orchards from Chula Vista to Temecula. We provide all the materials you will need for successful gleaning! We have driving shifts for the Leucadia, La Jolla, and Hillcrest farmers' markets every Sunday. You'll be transporting fresh produce from the market to one of our Feeding Partners. Examples of Feeding Partners are Alpha Project for the Homeless, Jewish Family Services, UCSD Food Pantry, and PlusBox. For Leucadia: you must have an SUV or larger. For Hillcrest and La Jolla: you must be trained by PG staff and be ready to drive a Nissan Transit van.
