PURPOSE Ronald McDonald House Charities (r) of Northeast Ohio (RMHC NEO) mission is to enhance the healthcare experience for families and children through comfort, care and supportive services. The STAR Corner is a free service of the RMHC NEO, which provides a fun, welcoming, educational environment for children while their sibling or caregiver receives medical/wellness care. Staff and volunteers work with children on age-appropriate lessons involving healthy habits, positive peer socialization and school readiness skills. Additionally, staff and volunteers will provide each family with "Takeaway" information and other supporting materials to promote a greater awareness of community resources to help impact future well-being. The STAR Corner volunteer will be involved in tasks to assist families who utilize the services of the Medical Center. In addition to supporting families, the volunteer will assist with daily teaching activities with children in the Corner and provide an awareness of services and resources available for families to access. RESPONSIBILITIES Directly interact with children and family members. Monitor and encourage positive child to child and family interactions. Maintain Corner child ratio expectations. Awareness of available Medical Center and community resources to share with families. Help maintain a comfortable environment that encourages child and family interactions. Foster a caring and inclusive atmosphere for all. Support interns and staff on duty, answer questions and intervene when necessary. Attend meetings and training courses as requested. Enforce and abide by RMHC NEO and Medical Center policies and procedures. Light lifting of supplies. Preparing the Corner for program services to include opening and closing procedures. QUALIFICATIONS Experience working or volunteering with children and/or families. Strong communication skills and ability to work independently. Interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Good judgment and decision-making skills. Passion for making a difference in the lives of children and families. TIME COMMITMENT 3 hour shifts available: 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday - Friday

General Description: The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital is an extension of the services Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland provides. The Family Room is a special place within the hospital where families can relax and "get away" while still being close to their child. The role of the Family Room Volunteer is to be supportive to the families who visit the Room, providing a friendly, caring atmosphere. Specific Responsibilities: Greet families upon arrival and orient guests to the Family Room Register new families Answer telephones and keep simple statistical records Offer resources to families Enforce Family Room and Hospital policies when needed Assist with light household chores Help provide a warm, friendly and supportive atmosphere for families Time Commitment: 3 hour shift weekly or bi-weekly, minimum 50 hour commitment over a six month period Minimum Age and Education Requirements: Adult 18 years and older with High School Diploma or Equivalent Training and Screening: Hospital and Family Room Orientation: Approx. 4 hours Desk-coaching (working under supervision): 3 hours Annual TB test, hospital-paid Reference Checks Background Screening

The Cleveland Ronald McDonald House STAR Center provides a fun and welcoming learning environment for children while their family members receive focused outpatient care. Mini lessons on healthy choices, medical care, caring for others and positive interactions are given to promote future well-being. The STAR Center volunteer is involved in tasks to assist families who utilize the services of the Outpatient Center. In addition to supporting families, the volunteer will assist with age-appropriate teaching activities with children in the Center and provide an awareness of services and resources available for families to access.

This team of volunteers keeps our house clean and operating smoothly. They maintain the shared common areas of the House by cleaning, stocking, baking, laundry and being present in our House in case families need something. We utilize volunteers to process donations and keep storage areas neatly stocked, labeled and rotated. Volunteers commit to once or twice a month rotating schedule and serve independently.

The Cleveland Ronald McDonald House is situated on several acres - surrounded by beautiful trees, shrubs, flowers, herb gardens, decorative grasses, and lawn. Outdoor features also include a koi pond, bird houses, children’s play areas, a treehouse, and contemplative walkway. The grounds of the House have become a place where parents and patients can find peace within walking distance of the hospital. We are dependent upon volunteer help to maintain our outdoor spaces. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome to contribute and we are fortunate to have several experienced volunteers to offer guidance. Required tasks may include · General gardening tasks · Weeding · Spreading mulch · Planting and dividing flowers · Edging flower beds · Garden redesign
