Arrange a Day of Service with your friends, co-workers or family members. SF Village staff will help you coordinate a Day of Service where your group can volunteer to help members cross a few things off of their pesky to-do lists. You'll help with chores like flipping mattresses, climbing ladders to change light bulbs, pruning gardens, dusting bookshelves, doing laundry and providing basic technology training. This is a great opportunity to help someone in need while meeting new people. The activities take place at each member's home. Each group will break up into groups of 4 to 6 and work two hours at each home in different neighborhoods within San Francisco.

We are a community based non-profit helping older San Franciscans to age in place with dignity. Assisting our members with their technology needs is a great way to make a difference. During the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers have been assisting members over the phone helping them to connect with Zoom, placing grocery orders online and talking them through tech issues virtually.

Position: General Volunteer Reports to: Member and Volunteer Coordinator Location: Varies; special event, office, member's homes, virtually by phone or online. Description: San Francisco Village is an inter-generational community that dignifies aging. We connect our members to the resources and meaningful relationships they need to thrive in the city they love. Many of them have lived in San Francisco more than 50 years and have stories to tell!! San Francisco Village Volunteers provide companionship, assist with errands and work one-on-one with members to help them stay independent and in charge of their lives. Volunteers may be asked to help with organizing papers or collections, weed the garden, update a computer or accompany a member to the grocery store. Many successful volunteer matches include technology support, like teaching an older person how to use a smart phone; coffee and conversation; and simple chores that they simply can’t achieve on their own any more. During COVID-19: SFV volunteers continue to engage with our members and we have shifted to opportunities that allow volunteers to assist with technology by phone and connect with members by phone as friendly callers. One of the greatest needs we presently have is for volunteers to go grocery shopping for members. Social distancing guidelines provided as part of training. Qualifications: San Francisco Village requires volunteers to complete a two-hour training and they must pass a background check. During COVID-19 pandemic, volunteer training takes place online via Zoom. Responsibilities and Duties: Varied; grocery shopping, driving to doctor's appointments, companionship, event help. Note: This is an ongoing opportunity so we will be recruiting volunteers on a continual basis

San Francisco Village (SFV) is looking for dedicated volunteers interested in working with older adults 60+ for our Wellness Program in partnership with Sutter Health/ California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). Through this partnership, SFV & CPMC are working to reduce hospital readmissions, emergency room visits and improve health outcomes for recently discharged patients. Our Wellness Program volunteers work closely with patients returning home after being discharged from the hospital. Volunteers' tasks include things such as friendly visits, phone check-ins, occasional grocery shopping, medication pick-up, and transportation. We are looking for a special group of volunteers to extend our caring community to benefit folks who could use some extra support during an especially vulnerable time. Our Wellness Program volunteers help to bridge the gap between health care and social care. Experience and an interest in working with older adults and the healthcare system is a bonus as well as reliability and good communication skills. Please be vaccinated for Covid-19, proof of vaccination required. Email any questions to Sha'Nice Patterson at sha'nice@sfvillage.org or respond to this opportunity and we will be in touch!
