Position: General Volunteer

Reports to:
Member and Volunteer Coordinator

Location:
Varies; special event, office, member's homes, virtually by phone or online.

Description:
San Francisco Village is an inter-generational community that dignifies aging. We connect our members to the resources and meaningful relationships they need to thrive in the city they love. Many of them have lived in San Francisco more than 50 years and have stories to tell!! San Francisco Village Volunteers provide companionship, assist with errands and work one-on-one with members to help them stay independent and in charge of their lives. Volunteers may be asked to help with organizing papers or collections, weed the garden, update a computer or accompany a member to the grocery store. Many successful volunteer matches include technology support, like teaching an older person how to use a smart phone; coffee and conversation; and simple chores that they simply can’t achieve on their own any more.

During COVID-19: SFV volunteers continue to engage with our members and we have shifted to opportunities that allow volunteers to assist with technology by phone and connect with members by phone as friendly callers. One of the greatest needs we presently have is for volunteers to go grocery shopping for members. Social distancing guidelines provided as part of training.

Qualifications:
San Francisco Village requires volunteers to complete a two-hour training and they must pass a background check. During COVID-19 pandemic, volunteer training takes place online via Zoom.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Varied; grocery shopping, driving to doctor's appointments, companionship, event help.

Note: This is an ongoing opportunity so we will be recruiting volunteers on a continual basis
