BUILD’s mission is to ignite the potential of youth in under-resourced communities to build Career success, Entrepreneurial mindsets, and Opportunity. We help students become the CEOs of their own lives. One of the key components of our organization is mentoring. We refer to our mentors as Business Team Coaches who volunteer weekly in a BUILD classroom for 60-90 minutes, supporting and motivating students on a youth business team. They provide thoughtful and compassionate feedback along the students' entrepreneurial journey and develop relationships with students that promote mutual trust and respect. This volunteer opportunity is working with high school students. There is no prior business experience required and we encourage people of all career backgrounds to apply. All volunteers go through an orientation at the beginning of the year to go over role and expectations. There are also ongoing trainings, newsletters, resources and check ins with BUILD staff and teachers. Description

Through entrepreneurship-based, experiential learning, BUILD prepares students for post-secondary success. By helping students develop and run their own small business, BUILD supplements traditional school with critical skill-building for the future. Volunteers from the community are also a part of BUILD's curriculum. They support the students throughout the year providing feedback and helping them build their professional networks. BUILD operates in California (Bay Area and Los Angeles), Boston, NYC, Metro DC and Pittsburgh.

BUILD is an amazing organization that really makes a difference in the lives of under-resourced high school students in the Bay Area and Washington, DC. The students are so impressive--they complete 30-page business proposals and actually run their own businesses, even presenting their plans to venture capitalists to get seed funding--and 100% of them get into college. BUILD has a number of volunteer opportunities that are all very rewarding and impactful, including serving as a business mentor or judge in the Business Plan Competitions. I volunteered as an academic tutor for 2 years and I just started volunteering full-time with the organization as a fundraiser. I was so impressed with the students, staff, and volunteers when I tutored and I am so glad to be able to support the organization now by helping write grants and cultivate donors. I would recommend BUILD to anyone who wants to volunteer and make a difference.
