BUILD is a national education nonprofit that began in the Bay Area in 1999. We partner with schools in under-resourced communities to teach students how to create a business, develop an entrepreneurial mindset, and build social capital.
Business Team Coaches (BTCs) support student teams as they learn how to BUILD a business and develop their professional network. BTCs can have a strong impact on students, as mutual trust and respect develop over time. This role takes place in an Oakland classrooms during the spring semester, running from January to May/June. The commitment is 1-2 times per month during the school day, lasting for 60-90 minutes each session. There is no prior business experience required and we encourage people of all career backgrounds to apply. Those interested can sign up here.
All volunteers go through an orientation in January to go over the role and expectations. The classroom teacher,and BUILD program staff also provide BTCs with guidance on working with students.

Description
Through entrepreneurship-based, experiential learning, BUILD prepares students for post-secondary success. By helping students develop and run their own small business, BUILD supplements traditional school with critical skill-building for the future. Volunteers from the community are also a part of BUILD's curriculum. They support the students throughout the year providing feedback and helping them build their professional networks. BUILD operates in California (Bay Area and Los Angeles), Boston, NYC, Metro DC and Pittsburgh.
