The Friends of the Palo Alto Library - FOPAL - is a nonprofit organization founded in 1938 with the sole purpose of providing grants to the Palo Alto libraries focused mainly on programs and updating the library's collection. Books and media are donated to us and we either sell them through our monthly Cubberley book sales or sell our high-value material through Amazon and eBay. In the last pre-COVID year we provided the library with $200,000 of funds. FOPAL is actively looking for new volunteers to support all areas of its activities, in particular its high-value team. We are looking for people with a love of books who are interested in researching antiquarian books, high-value books, and media and determining their value in preparation for sale. FOPAL has documentation that explains all of these processes as well as training and mentoring. Some of this work can be done at home and some at FOPAL's annex at Cubberley and all of it can be done on your own personal schedule. Create your own mini bookstore- Section managers needed!

Become a Section Manager or a Section Manager Assistant! Bring your love of books in areas like Military History, Medicine, and Ephemera, to name several sections available. All books are pre-sorted and ready to be priced and displayed! Proceeds go directly to the Palo Alto Libraries to fund literacy & enrichment programming. Join the FOPAL team to sell more books and change people's lives! Once trained a flexible schedule is available.

Mitchell Park Library- FOPAL Bookstore -Volunteers needed! Volunteers are needed to help in the new Mitchell Park Library Friends of the Library (FOPAL) Book Store- Monday- Friday 3- 5pm. (Other days/times available) The Friends of the Palo Alto Library (FOPAL) need volunteers to help at their new Friends Bookstore in Palo Alto's new Mitchell Park Library. Neighborhood people who love books and libraries, and enjoy working with the public would make great volunteers!

Enjoy a first look at an amazing assortment of books, greet donors, monitor the donation process, offer receipts, and thank yous to donors! General Info-FOPAL Donation Monitors/volunteers Using social distancing will be accepting donations, 6 bags/boxes or less, Mondays- Saturdays 3- 5pm. Donation monitors will assist donors to drop their books... Donors dropping off boxes/bags at FOPAL-Cubberley Community Center. Donors will be asked to place books. (6 boxes/bags or less)...in banker boxes. FOPAL volunteers or donors will then move those books... into FOPAL's sorting room. Meet friendly donors; get free body-building exercise!

Volunteers @ booksales

The Friends of the Palo Alto Library's/FOPAL book sales is one of the largest of its kind in the country. The money generated from the sale is donated to the public libraries. To date, FOPAL has donated over 3 million dollars. Buyers come from miles around and even other cities. Everyone has a great time and about a quarter-million books, a year find new readers instead of going into landfills. For FOPAL's monthly book sale, (2nd weekend of each month) we need cashiers, floor supervisors, and door monitors (meet hundreds of fellow bookaholics and experience the Thrill of the Marketplace!)
