Volunteer with us at the Community Kitchen! The Community Kitchen serves free hot meals seven days per week, offering a gathering place where connections are made and doors to more resources and support are opened. Come for the food, stay for the connection. The Community Kitchen serves a hot lunch every day of the work-week, and a hot breakfast on weekends! Community Kitchen Volunteers may help prepare food, assemble meals, serve meals to guests, and help clean up after meal service. The Kitchen is a fun, fast-paced environment. No prior cooking or restaurant experience is required. As long as you have a passion for serving, and an interest in food, we can teach the rest! Volunteer with Lakeshore Food Rescue Lakeshore Food Rescue is a community-powered initiative of Community Action House, that aims to End Food Waste, Fight Hunger and Mobilize the Community. Our goal is to turn Excess Food into Food Access. We partner with food retailers, volunteer drivers and local non-profit partners to greatly reduce waste by making excess fresh, healthy food available to those who need it most. Food Rescue Hero is a nationally-recognized technology platform and app that aims to address food insecurity and waste. Through the Food Rescue Hero app, volunteers are notified when food rescue pick-ups are available. Volunteer as much or as little as you'd like, on your schedule. Or, sign up for a recurring route at the same time, same place each week. Our initial dispatch hours will be business hours Monday - Friday. Volunteer with us at Food Club! Our Food Club offers a membership-based grocery store experience that allows our guests to choose the fresh, healthy foods that their family loves. In other communities, food is either free at a pantry or full price at the grocery store. Our innovative approach at the Food Club fills that gaping hole in the middle and builds community in the process. Food Club is all about providing access to fresh, healthy foods in a friendly and clean grocery-store environment. Tasks at the Food Club include checking produce, organizing shelves, sorting rescued food, working the checkout station, stocking the freezer, stocking food and preparing healthy at home meal kits. We are specifically seeking volunteers in the following positions, during the following times: Checkout volunteers (*training provided!) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Produce checkers on Saturdays from 10am-12pm and 12-2pm We hope you can join us!
