As a board member, you will play an essential role in dismantling gentrification, promoting homeownership, and fostering empowerment in underserved communities. Programs NeighborScapes leads impactful programs, including: Innovation Houses: Acquisition and rehabilitation of vacant and blighted properties to create co-living spaces for mission-driven individuals committed to community service and civic engagement. SHIFT Chicago: A partnership aimed at shifting mindsets and providing better opportunities to those needing a second chance. Mindful Parenting Program: A transformative initiative supporting families with resources to build resilience and stronger family bonds. NeighborScapes is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Development Associate to assist with a variety of essential fundraising tasks that support our mission to secure sustainable funding and increase our impact. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build skills in grant writing, donor research, and nonprofit development strategy. Key Responsibilities: Grant Research and Writing: Assist in identifying potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources. Support the development of grant proposals, working closely with the team to align proposals with NeighborScapes’ mission and goals. Donor Research: Conduct research on prospective donors, including individuals, corporate sponsors, and foundations. Help identify potential funding sources and create donor profiles to support cultivation efforts. Database Management: Assist with managing and updating our donor database using DonorBox. Ensure accurate record-keeping of donor interactions, donations, and contact details. Help track fundraising metrics and generate reports. Fundraising Event Support: Help plan and coordinate fundraising events, ensuring all logistics are organized and that donors and attendees are engaged and informed. Assist with follow-up communications after events to build and maintain relationships with attendees. Donor Communication: Support the development of personalized communications, including thank-you letters, impact reports, and regular updates on how donations are making a difference in our programs. Assist in the creation of donor engagement materials. Fundraising Strategy Support: Collaborate with the development team to help implement and refine our fundraising strategy, including donor cultivation plans, fundraising calendars, and campaigns. Participate in strategic planning sessions to improve our outreach and engagement efforts. Skills and Experience: Strong organizational and time management skills Excellent communication and writing skills, with an interest in storytelling and donor engagement Basic experience or interest in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development Familiarity with donor management systems like DonorBox or willingness to learn Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Commitment: 10-15 hours per week (flexible). The role offers a combination of remote and in-person opportunities, with a focus on supporting fundraising activities year-round. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of our efforts to cultivate and retain donors who are essential to funding our mission and expanding our impact. Key Responsibilities: Donor Relationship Building: Proactively engage with donors through personalized outreach, thank-you notes, and tailored communications to grow long-term relationships. Help create meaningful connections between donors and NeighborScapes’ mission. Donor Retention: Work closely with our team to develop and implement strategies to encourage recurring donations. Assist in planning and executing engagement initiatives such as exclusive donor updates, appreciation events, and loyalty recognition programs. Impact Reporting: Help track and report on the impact of donations, ensuring donors are regularly updated on how their contributions are making a difference in the community. Collaborate with our team to create and share compelling success stories. Donor Segmentation: Assist in segmenting our donor base to ensure personalized and relevant communications. Tailor engagement efforts based on donor type, including first-time donors, recurring donors, and lapsed donors. Event Support: Coordinate with the team to organize donor appreciation events, project tours, and special campaigns such as Giving Tuesday. Play a vital role in making sure donors feel valued and appreciated. Win-Back Campaigns: Help re-engage lapsed donors by developing targeted messaging and outreach efforts to bring them back into active giving. Skills and Experience: Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for relationship-building Experience in customer service, marketing, or fundraising (preferred but not required) Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks Experience with donor management systems like DonorBox or CRM tools (a plus) Commitment: 5-10 hours per week (flexible), with a mix of remote and in-person opportunities.
