Veteran to Veteran Connection Volunteer Works With: Patients who identify as Veterans Role Veterans support veterans on an end-of-life journey. This role provides veteran patients with support through compassionate presence and socialization. From simply being present,to reminiscing, even reading the paper, it's a way for hospice veterans to be connected to other veterans. Primary Responsibilities: Compassionate presence for the patient and family Support patient on their end of life journey as needed Other services as determined by volunteer, coordinator and patient/family Secondary Responsibilities Simple documentation of the visit, form provided, to be submitted to the Volunteer Coordinator Skills/Qualifications Needed Compassion Understanding Patience Good Listener Desired Experience A successful applicant will show a positive attitude towards patient care and be comfortable around individuals on their end of life journey. Must be a Veteran. Time Commitment Dependent on schedule determined by Volunteer and Coordinator

Bereavement Volunteer Responsible to : Volunteer Coordinator Works With: Bereaved Role Provide support to families on their grief journey. This role has a variety of tasks from support with mailings to support with bereavement support phone calls. Training is provided for this role. Bereavement group support may also be available depending on time of year. Primary Responsibilities: Assist with mailings and letters AND/OR Provide condolences to families with uncomplicated grief via phone calls Secondary Responsibilities Simple documentation of the visit, form provided, to be submitted to the Volunteer Coordinator Skills/Qualifications Needed Hand Dexterity Compassion Understanding Patience Good Listener Desired Experience A successful applicant will show a positive attitude towards patient care and be comfortable around individuals on their grief journey. VR Volunteer Role This unique experience allows Volunteers to bring the gift of VR to our patients. This role provides training on the use of our VR, and allows patients to check off their bucket list experiences at the end of life, giving them autonomy and joy. The sky's the limit! Primary Responsibilities: Assist patient with VR set up and be present during the use of VR Compassionate presence for the patient and family Assist patient in attending facility recreational activities Support patient on their end of life journey as needed Potential to provide light housekeeping if a home patient, or other services Secondary Responsibilities Simple documentation of the visit, form provided, to be submitted to the Volunteer Coordinator Skills/Qualifications Needed Compassion Understanding Patience Flexibility Desired Experience A successful applicant will show a positive attitude towards patient care and be comfortable around individuals facing an end of life journey Time Commitment One time a week, or once every other week is preferred, but availability is negotiable autonomy and joy. Bedside Vigil Volunteer Responsible to : Volunteer Coordinator Works With : Transitioning Patients & Their Families Role As a Bedside Vigil Volunteer you will have the honor and privilege to be present during a patient’s last moments. Part of the NODA (No One Dies Alone) initiative Affinity is looking for individuals who wish to serve bedside vigil. This treasured role is a significant part of our Affinity team, with in-depth training and ongoing support to the volunteers as they serve our patients in their final hours. A Bedside Vigil Volunteer specifically serves individuals without families, or families who cannot be present for a variety of reasons. We work with volunteer's location to serve patients in that area.
