Our HANDmeUPs non-profit thrift store frequently receives donations of furniture or other large items that are unsalable due to poor condition. These items need to be taken to the nearby Citizens Convenience Center off Durant Road for disposal. Less than 10 min. from store location. We are looking for one or more individual(s) with a pick-up truck or large van to come to the back of the store 2x per months to take items to the dump. Items are outside and can be picked up any time. We are willing to compensate for gasoline. Our mission is to employ adults with autism and/or intellectual developmental disabilities at our thrift store. Many of them do not have a driver license. If they do, they have small vehicles, so we do not have anybody on staff able to provide this service for us. Professional junk removal services are just too expensive. If you have a heart for our mission, and can spend a total of 3-4 hours per month removing these items for us, please come talk to us. Larger pieces can be demolished before transport to make it easier to get on the truck.

Engage NC is Looking for a New Board Member to Join our Non-Profit Volunteer Board of Directors. Our board members are the strategic heart of our organization, ensuring that our mission "to create jobs for adults with autism and/or intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD) in the NC Triangle" is fulfilled. The board develops forward-looking strategies to increase local job opportunities for this population. In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, Engage NC’s board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization. They are fully engaged in identifying and securing the resources and partnerships necessary to advance our mission. If you are one of the following, we’d like to talk with you: Energetic and entrepreneurial businesspeople / small business owners, who are not already overextended with other commitments, eager to put their enthusiasm for making a difference for this community to work. Community members with a passion for our mission through lived experience. That includes having a family member with autism/IDD or have served successfully on the board of an organization with a similar mission. You understand the dire need for jobs for a population that is 80% unemployed or under-employed. Understanding the problem through personal experience is critical for effectively working on solutions. Community leaders and philanthropists willing to help create jobs through identifying businesses willing to hire this population, raise funds for the creation of new businesses and network on our behalf to connect with other groups interested in partnering with us. We are looking for folks who will: · Reliably attend six board meetings annually (must reside in the NC Triangle). · Actively participate in ongoing projects either in person or via Zoom. · Advocate for our needs in the community and network among colleagues and peers. · Give their time generously. We are not interested in benchwarmers or people who just want to bolster their resume. Ideally you have a history of volunteering in the community. If you are interested in being considered for our board, please contact bruce@engage-nc.org or rita@engage-nc.org Website: https://engage-nc.org/
