Engage NC is Looking for a New Board Member to Join our Non-Profit Volunteer Board of Directors.
Our board members are the strategic heart of our organization, ensuring that our mission "to create jobs for adults with autism and/or intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD) in the NC Triangle" is fulfilled.
The board develops forward-looking strategies to increase local job opportunities for this population.
In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, Engage NC’s board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization. They are fully engaged in identifying and securing the resources and partnerships necessary to advance our mission.
If you are one of the following, we’d like to talk with you:
Energetic and entrepreneurial businesspeople / small business owners, who are not already overextended with other commitments, eager to put their enthusiasm for making a difference for this community to work.
Community members with a passion for our mission through lived experience. That includes having a family member with autism/IDD or have served successfully on the board of an organization with a similar mission. You understand the dire need for jobs for a population that is 80% unemployed or under-employed. Understanding the problem through personal experience is critical for effectively working on solutions.
Community leaders and philanthropists willing to help create jobs through identifying businesses willing to hire this population, raise funds for the creation of new businesses and network on our behalf to connect with other groups interested in partnering with us.
We are looking for folks who will:
· Reliably attend six board meetings annually (must reside in the NC Triangle).
· Actively participate in ongoing projects either in person or via Zoom.
· Advocate for our needs in the community and network among colleagues and peers.
· Give their time generously. We are not interested in benchwarmers or people who just want to bolster their resume. Ideally you have a history of volunteering in the community.
If you are interested in being considered for our board, please contact bruce@engage-nc.org or rita@engage-nc.org

Mission Statement
EngageNC’s Mission is to create jobs for adults with Autism/Intellectual Developmental Disabilites in the NC Triangle through community-focused employment innovations.
Description
EngageNC (formerly "The Power of the Dream") was founded in 2008 by a group of self-advocates and families in order to assist others in better understanding micro-enterprise and asset building. As the organization connected with more individuals, it was clear that many job seekers with Autism/IDD faced significant barriers to employment.
In 2013, EngageNC opened HANDmeUPs Thrift to provide direct employment opportunities and to demonstrate the value of employing adults with Autism/IDD. Over the years, EngageNC has continued to provide advice and resources to micro-entrepreneurs and businesses who are intentional about hiring adults with Autism/IDD.
