One of our programs involves engaging high school students in a social enterprise where they offer products, services or events to raise funds for programs, reach out to the community and / or build skills. In this volunteer opportunity you will mentor students to build their entrepreneurship skills, including customer service, accountability, asking for help, communicating progress and initiative. You are the glue to help in the continuation of products, services or events between student involvement as interns. A critical understanding about our social enterprise is NOT that we have a successful product, service or event Go-To-Market but that our interns are able to connect with industry partners, interview individuals at businesses, explore career pathways and build their skills along the way. Thank you for considering. We looking forward to you joining our team!

In our space high school students have an opportunity to explore their interests in technology and engineering either through: Our social enterprise developing products, services or events or the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) competitive robotics teams (#s 19541, 19970 and 20771) Mentors support students with their projects and engage them in their career interests. Some examples of mentoring are: becoming a co-lead with a student lead on a project; sharing knowledge with students to help them level up their capabilities; stressing the importance of engineering notebooks; helping them identify what they should be communicating as a team member; helping them focus, prioritize and scope a task of work that can be completed; helping them troubleshoot a problem; sharing their workplace experiences; and celebrate successes! The FTC robotics teams are busy from the August through February meeting 1-3 times a week depending on whether they are working on mechanisms, programming or business team efforts.

In this volunteer opportunity as an Equipment Trainer / Technician you will be helping us keep equipment running, training others on equipment and monitoring the safe use of equipment by community members. You are the enabler for student interns to learn techniques and fabricate parts themselves. The most used items in our space are 3D Printers and laptops, but we do have other equipment like CNCs in the makerspace we would love your help with. Times that we are open varies. During the school year students are in our space in the evening at this time. Our busiest time is during the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) build season from September through mid-February and at the start of our internships when we are onboarding and training new students. Thank you for considering and we looking forward to joining our team!
