In our space high school students have an opportunity to explore their interests in technology and engineering either through:
- Our social enterprise developing products, services or events or
- the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) competitive robotics teams (#s 19541, 19970 and 20771)
Mentors support students with their projects and engage them in their career interests. Some examples of mentoring are:
- becoming a co-lead with a student lead on a project;
- sharing knowledge with students to help them level up their capabilities;
- stressing the importance of engineering notebooks;
- helping them identify what they should be communicating as a team member;
- helping them focus, prioritize and scope a task of work that can be completed;
- helping them troubleshoot a problem;
- sharing their workplace experiences; and
- celebrate successes!
The FTC robotics teams are busy from the August through February meeting 1-3 times a week depending on whether they are working on mechanisms, programming or business team efforts.
