STAIR-Annapolis, Start The Adventure In Reading, is a twice-weekly, AFTER SCHOOL literacy tutoring program for AACPS first and second graders reading below grade level. We are in need of substitute tutors at Van Bokkelen Elementary, Severn Elementary (Reese Road) and Four Seasons Elementary in Gambrills. We have 13 sites conveniently located at Elementary Schools across Annapolis and throughout Anne Arundel County. No experience necessary and we offer training! Substitute tutors have the opportunity to work with each of the students at their site on an as-needed basis. Our Severn site meets on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:30-3:45 and our Van Bokkelen site meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:45. Our Four Seasons site meets on Monday and Thursdays from 2:30-3:45. Forty five minute Zoom information sessions for New volunteers are regularly scheduled in the Fall and Spring. This information session will be an overview of STAIR and an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about our program. Tutors work one-on-one with a student for an hour-long session, and we offer our volunteers the flexibility to choose their level of commitment: one day per week, two days per week, or as a substitute on an as-needed basis. Stair-Annapolis at Tracey's Elementary STAIR will be held Monday and Thursday from 2:30-3:45. We are in need of tutors, substitutes, for our Tracey's site and tutors and substitutes for our Lothian site that meets on Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:45. This Fall there will be a one-hour Information session on Thursday, November 7 from 12:30-1:30 at the Michael Busch Public Library on West Street. Start The Adventure In Reading (STAIR-Annapolis) is a twice-weekly, AFTER SCHOOL literacy tutoring program for Anne Arundel County Public School first and second graders currently reading below grade level. STAIR is looking for tutors to work one on one with students at our Annapolis sites and to choose a location that is most convenient for you. We are currently in need of substitute tutors. Substitute tutors work with a student for an hour 15 minute-long session on days when the child's regular tutor is sick or on vacation. The Site leaders will text and ask for availability and substitutes can accept or decline. STAIR offers a comprehensive 2 hour training program for all tutors and use an educator approved curriculum. STAIR's mission is to increase the reading level of 2nd graders, to improve students' self-esteem and self-confidence, and to provide a caring environment where reading is FUN!
Description
STAIR-Annapolis was founded in 2006 and now includes 12 sites throughout the City of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, serving more than 100 Anne Arundel County Public Schools second graders. Our program provides twice-weekly literacy tutoring after school for the entire academic year for students reading below grade level, using a dedicated team of volunteer tutors and an educator-approved curriculum. Training is provided and no prior teaching or tutoring experience is necessary. On average, STAIR students improve 4.3 reading levels over the course of the year!
