Be a Lifesaver! Foster a Cat or Dog! Fostering is a temporary commitment with lasting rewards for you and the animal. Giving an animal a chance to spend time in a foster home has positive effects on their mental and physical health. Fostering also gives the animal a chance to be socialized with other animals and humans. This is so important to know who and what they will get along with to ensure they find their perfect "furever home." HSDC is always needing dog, puppy, cat, and kitten fosters. Becoming a foster parent is super easy! If you are interested in becoming a foster for dogs, puppies, cats, or kittens, you need to visit our website and submit a FOSTER Application (different from an Adoption Application.) HSDC Website: https://www.hsdavie.org/ Step by step instructions on submitting a Foster Application: Visit the HSDC website (see link above). Look for "Foster" tab at the top of the page, Click "Foster" tab. Scroll down and select "Become a Dog or Puppy Foster" or "Become a Kitten or Cat Foster." Complete the Foster Application. Once the application is submitted, you will be contacted by an HSDC staff member to answer any questions you may have and give you more details about which animals are needing foster homes.

At the Humane Society of Davie County, we are always looking for volunteers for various needs and events. With the Humane Society of Davie County having a small staff and being a non-profit organization, we rely on the help of volunteers to accomplish so much in saving the lives of animals in Davie County. We have an administrative office and resource center. All our adoptable cats and dogs are in foster homes. Volunteer needs are always popping up and we reach out when these arise. We also have a Facebook page named "HSDC Volunteers and Fosters" dedicated to volunteers and fosters. We post on that page when a volunteer need arises, when we need a foster, and upcoming events. Whether it is an adoption event, fundraising event, or a community outreach event, we cannot do them without volunteers. Event volunteers are the key to being able to take more animals to or have more time for people to come by during an event. If you can’t be a volunteer during the week, events may be right up your alley. From setting up the HSDC information table and cat adoption cages to handling dogs on leashes for people to meet, greeting the public, or transporting animals to and from the event, there are many duties to be covered and we can always use help for these. You would be there to answer questions, give out information, or give out food/supplies to people when they come by to pick up. A staff member is always available by phone if a question arises you don't know the answer to. PetSmart Adoption Cages We have partnered with PetSmart on Hanes Mall Blvd in Winston-Salem and have 4 cat cages with adoptable cats and kittens housed there. Volunteers are needed to clean the cat cages daily and of course love on the cats that will be staying there until they are adopted. We would need to have someone show you around for your first shift. If you’re interested, let us know and we can send you the link to sign up and more details.
