Human Services Internships Available Are you interested in working in the Human Services field? Do you love working with Teens and young adults? Are you looking for hands on field experience? Then, this is the place for you. The mission of STANDUP FOR KIDS is to end the cycle of youth homelessness. Based on current estimates, more than 1.5 million children, teenagers and young adults are trying to survive on U. S. streets today. Children make up 27% of homeless in the U.S. and they are the fastest growing segment of that population. Volunteers of STANDUP FOR KIDS share a common goal: to relieve the suffering and feeling of abandonment that homeless and street kids face on a daily basis. We are looking for a few people who are motivated and love a challenge to work with our teams. You may ask what do we do? Kids end up on the streets for a large variety of reasons - they find themselves going in a number of directions - and many don’t know where to find the answers. Our street outreach approach allows us to direct youth to resources that are already available (often times kids are not aware the resources/services or how to access them). We help them in other ways when the services they need are not available. * Street Outreach & Outreach Center * Directing kids to community services that are available, working with youth on anger management, job and resume skills, visiting shelters, field trips, college trips, finding tutors, arranging doctor appointments. * Working to develop resources for education, employment, training, shelter * Working with Foster Care and Local Shelters * Helping kids in our After School program (helping kids to stay in school) * Transitional Living Skills for kids we’re helping to get into apartments * Mentoring youth * Tutoring * Linking youth to resources Our counselors provide direct assistance to homeless and street kids and at-risk youth through a number of programs, depending on the needs of the community. Referring kids to the services, guiding, nurturing, and assisting them in much the same way a family would. Many kids would consider us as their family! STANDUP FOR KIDS reaches out to youth with hope, caring, and long lasting relationships! It isn’t just about getting off the streets; it’s helping to build a future. For our volunteers, it isn’t a job it’s a commitment!
