COVID-19 restrictions and precautions have made our hospice clients more lonely and isolated. With conditions improving, we can't wait to bring volunteers and therapy animals to make our patient's days. Bring comfort, joy, and connection with your certified therapy dog! Engage hospice patients in life review and connect them to their past with childhood memories of their animals. North Memorial Hospice's Animal Assisted Ambassador Program was created to provide the opportunity for our patients to interact with an animal. The animal and animal handler (volunteer) must be registered by a Therapy Dog agency (Pet Partners, Therapy Dogs International (TDI) or Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD). All Animal Assisted Ambassador Volunteers will work under our Animal Assisted Therapist who can help you get comfortable with visiting patients at end of life, answer questions, and prepare volunteer and animal for visits with hospice patients. Our therapist can help you determine if your dog would be a good therapy animal and discuss the process to become certified if you have not done so yet. Dogs must be a minimum of 1 year in age and be comfortable being touched or crowded by a group of people. Bring your certified animal and put a smile on the faces of our hospice patients!

North Memorial Hospice partners with "We Honor Veterans" program through the VA. The mission is to "Serve Those Who Served Us". We are seeking local veterans in the surrounding metro area to pair up with a veteran on our hospice program. Many patients are able to open up to a fellow veteran more than they would with any other member of our care team. Help make a positive impact on a veteran at the end of their life by joining our North Memorial Hospice Volunteer team! Flexible schedule to work with your life. Reminisce about military service, hear incredible veteran stories, and have the opportunity to honor our patient's military service with a pining ceremony with patient and family (see photos).

COVID-19 took a big toll on our clients and contributed to increased isolation for many people. With restrictions loosening, we are looking for caring individuals to provide companionship visits with our Hospice patients in and around the Metro area. We visit patients wherever they call home (skilled nursing facilities, group home, private home, apartment). Volunteers are an integral part of the Hospice team approach by providing a supportive presence to patients, engaging patients and their loved ones in life review and reminiscing, offering respite to allow caregivers a break, and so much more! Come be part of something wonderful and walk alongside our patients throughout their end of life journey. Online and in-person training is provided.
