COVID-19 restrictions and precautions have made our hospice clients more lonely and isolated. With conditions improving, we can't wait to bring volunteers and therapy animals to make our patient's days.
Bring comfort, joy, and connection with your certified therapy dog! Engage hospice patients in life review and connect them to their past with childhood memories of their animals.
North Memorial Hospice's Animal Assisted Ambassador Program was created to provide the opportunity for our patients to interact with an animal. The animal and animal handler (volunteer) must be registered by a Therapy Dog agency (Pet Partners, Therapy Dogs International (TDI) or Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD).
All Animal Assisted Ambassador Volunteers will work under our Animal Assisted Therapist who can help you get comfortable with visiting patients at end of life, answer questions, and prepare volunteer and animal for visits with hospice patients. Our therapist can help you determine if your dog would be a good therapy animal and discuss the process to become certified if you have not done so yet.
Dogs must be a minimum of 1 year in age and be comfortable being touched or crowded by a group of people.
Bring your certified animal and put a smile on the faces of our hospice patients!
