Join Battle Creek Head Start as an Infant and Toddler Early Learning Partner, making a significant impact on children's developing brains during their crucial first 1,000 days. In this AmeriCorps member position, you'll engage in daily activities fostering early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills in toddlers. Collaborating with our Head Start teachers, you'll contribute to a supportive community, preparing our youngest learners for success through secure and caring relationships. The program, running from fall to spring, offers comprehensive training and coaching for the 2023-24 program year, starting in October or January. What to Expect Spend your days playing, singing, reading, writing, counting, and building relationships with babies and toddlers. Foster asset-based, supportive, and caring relationships with caregivers of babies and toddlers. Respond to feedback and commit to continuous improvement through coaching, training and professional development. Represent Early Learning Corps at site-sponsored activities and share your experience with the wider community to help build awareness. Perks Package Serve as an Early Learning Partner and receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 35, 25, or 18 hours per week. 35 hours/week perks: A stipend of $1,000 paid every 2 weeks $17,000 total for 900 hours of service starting in October 2023 $11,000 total for 675 hours of service starting in January 2024 Up to $3,447 for tuition or student loans* $3,447 total for members beginning their service in October 2023 $2,626 total for members beginning their service in January 2024 Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment Individual health insurance - Monthly premium 100% covered Child care assistance - Based on family size and income 25 hours/week perks: A stipend of $750 paid every 2 weeks $12,750 total for 675 hours of service starting in October 2023 $8,250 total for 450 hours of service starting in January 2024 Up to $2,626 for tuition or student loans* $2,626 total for members beginning their service in October 2023 $1,824 total for members beginning their service in January 2024 Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment 18 hours/week perks: A stipend of $535 paid every 2 weeks $9,095 total for 450 hours of service starting in October 2023 $5,885 total for 300 hours of service starting in January 2024 Up to $1,824 for tuition or student loans* $1,824 total for members beginning their service in October 2023 $1,459 total for members beginning their service in January 2024 Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment *The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ at the start of their service term may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child, or stepchild. What it Takes Anyone can become an Infant and Toddler Early Learning Partner as long as they have a passion to take action and support children - and meet the following minimum qualifications. By the time they begin their service, our members are: Dependable and have a history of good attendance Able to understand and follow instructions Open to making improvements based on feedback Energized by young learners and want to help them discover new things. Eager to work collaboratively with the classroom teaching team. Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online) Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States* Able to successfully complete a background check *Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time. Take action as an Early Learning Tutor at our Battle Creek Head Start this October and help kids emerge stronger and ready for school. As an Early Learning Tutor, you’ll spend your days helping kids ages 3-5 to talk, read, write, sing, and play in order to develop early literacy and math skills. Working closely with a teacher in a classroom, you’ll enhance daily activities and help our youngest learners build both skills and confidence. Community Action Partnership is proud to partner with Early Learning Corps to bring 2 Early Learning Tutors to Battle Creek. This is a stipended AmeriCorps member position with Early Learning Corps, where members serve at sites throughout the U.S. to help our youngest learners get ready for school! Duties & Responsibilities: Assist classroom teachers to support student activities and fulfill the Head Start classroom philosophy. This may include reading stories, reviewing the alphabet, teaching kids how to read and write, chaperoning field trips and family fun events. Use proven strategies to help students build their skills and confidence. Spend your days helping children play rhyming games, write their names, learn letter sounds, and develop counting skills. Collaborate with coaches to monitor student progress and see what’s working. Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data management software. Respond to feedback and commit to continuous improvement through coaching, training and professional development. Represent Early Learning Corps at school-sponsored activities and share your experience with the wider community to help build awareness.
