The CIANA Education Team is seeking volunteers for our in person After School Homework Help/Tutoring Program for the fall semester of the 2023-2024 school year. Volunteer tutors will help our students by supporting them in completing their homework and strengthening their academic skills. Volunteer Tutors will support the After School Homework Help/Tutoring Program by offering one-on-one or small group homework help to elementary and middle school students in Grades 1-8. Homework help sessions are conducted between 4 - 5:30 PM. Volunteer tutors may also be used as substitutes for other volunteers at times. Qualifications (*) Passionate, committed, engaging! (*) Experience in working with children is preferred, but not required. (*) Background in mathematics and/or English is preferred. (*) Volunteers with both Tuesdays and Thursdays availability preferred, but not required. (*) Volunteers must be 15+ years of age at the time of application. Location Astoria; at CIANA’s office 36-12 34th Avenue, 3rd Floor, Astoria, NY 11106 By the Steinway street R M Subway Stop or the N W Broadway Subway Stop. The Q66, Q101, Q102, and Q104 bus routes are also just a few blocks away. Time Commitment (*) Mondays and Wednesdays 1.5-hour tutoring sessions between the hours of 4 - 5:30 PM. *This is an in-person position and you must report to our office in Astoria. **This position is open to New York City (and surrounding area) residents only.

Overview The Center for the Integration & Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) is a social services organization that works to integrate new immigrants from South Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and Latin America into the socio-economic and civic life of American society while maintaining pride in their cultural heritage. CIANA is seeking a Spanish-speaking Education Administrative Intern to carry out basic administrative tasks and calling and completing forms for clients in the Education Programs. This is a great opportunity for a college student seeking to complete fieldwork hours and to gain hands-on experience in education or a non-profit organization. Responsibilities (*) Answer door and welcome guests to the office and direct them to the appropriate staff member; (*) Conduct general intakes with clients and provide them with information for the service requested (ESL, civics, legal, etc); (*) Enter client information into our database and Google Platforms; (*) Answer the main phone line, respond to inquiries, and take messages when necessary; (*) Return calls to clients when needed; (*) Help organize education materials both in the office and online. Qualifications (*) Interested in Education; (*) Fluency in Spanish required; (*) Highly organized and detail-oriented; (*) Exhibits professional and courteous demeanor and phone etiquette; (*) Respectful and sensitive to other cultures; (*) Experience using Google Platforms is strongly preferred. CIANA is looking for a volunteer to assist us in managing and cataloging the community supply closet in our office. The community supply closet includes clothes, shoes, houseware, school supplies, and other items. It is a crucial aspect of our push to deliver basic services to vulnerable New Yorkers. This is a great opportunity to receive volunteer/community service hours! Responsibilities (*) Organize and make inventory of community clothing closet; (*) Receive donations; (*) Folding and storing clothing; (*) Prepare donated items for clients and other community members; (*) Perform general upkeep of office facilities.
