Becoming a Virtual Tutor - Volunteer I'RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation provides a tutoring program in order to assist students who are experiencing difficulties in school and are performing under grade level or need academic support. As a small non-profit company, I'RAISE annually matches up to 40 volunteer tutors with students (tutees). Research Team Volunteer Position Title: Research Team Volunteer Location: Remote or Hybrid (depending on organization's needs) Reports to: CEO and Executive Officers Time Commitment: 5 hours per week, 1 year commitment About I’RAISE: I'RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation, founded in the heart of the North Bronx in 2012, began as a mentoring program for at-risk female youth living in New York City Authority Housing. Under the visionary leadership of CEO Shanequa Moore, the organization quickly expanded its reach and impact. Shanequa, a Bronx native who overcame poverty and significant life challenges, was inspired to give back to her community, creating a resilient organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and youth. History: Incorporated in 2013 and achieving Tax-Exempt Non-Profit status in 2014, I'RAISE has grown into a formidable force for positive change. Initially focused on mentoring, the organization recognized the critical need for mental health support in public schools and strategically pivoted to address this gap. Today, I'RAISE champions equity in mental healthcare through culturally responsive programs that foster resilience, well-being, and empowerment for youth. Research Team Volunteer Role Summary: The Research Team Volunteer will support I'RAISE by conducting and continuing research to inform program development, policy proposals, and strategic initiatives. The volunteer will review past research, analyze collected data, and develop strategies for using research findings to best serve the community and advance the organization’s mission. They will also assist in presenting findings to stakeholders, including governors, council members, and policymakers, to propose new policies aligned with the organization's goals and the community’s needs. Key Responsibilities: Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative research on topics relevant to the organization's programs and services, including community needs in both NYC and international crisis-affected countries. Review and build upon previous research efforts to ensure continuity and maximize impact. Use various methods, including interviews, surveys, and literature reviews, to gather data on community needs both domestically and internationally. Analyze collected research data, identifying key trends and insights applicable to the communities served and the organization's mission. Collaborate with the team to create actionable recommendations based on research findings. Assist in developing and proposing policies based on extensive research and data, ensuring they address community needs and align with the organization’s objectives. Present research findings, data, and policy recommendations to key stakeholders, including council members, governors, and other decision-makers. Summarize research findings into comprehensive reports or presentations for both internal use and external stakeholders. Stay informed on current trends and emerging issues related to community needs and responses to crises globally and locally. Qualifications: Graduate degree (or in progress) in one of the following areas: Public Policy, Social Work, Public Health, Sociology, International Relations, Development Studies, Psychology, or Data Science/Statistics. Interest or background in research, data analysis, public policy, social sciences, or related fields. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess research data and draw meaningful conclusions. Experience or interest in policy development and understanding how to translate research into actionable policy proposals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data and proposals clearly to diverse audiences. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team. Familiarity with research methods and tools (e.g., online databases, survey software, etc.) is a plus. Learning & Development Opportunities: Gain intensive practical experience in conducting research on both local and international community needs during crises. Develop public speaking and presentation skills by engaging with stakeholders such as council members and governors. Collaborate with experienced professionals in a non-profit environment, contributing to impactful projects that support vulnerable populations.
