Sister Cities Project is seeking a Communications Professional (Volunteer) Are you a communications expert who wants to contribute to impactful social change? Sister Cities Project is looking for a professional to assist with organizing, coordinating, and securing media coverage for two significant upcoming press conferences. These events will highlight major milestones for Sister Cities Project: the launch of our Equitable Schools Fund, which aims to create more equitable learning environments, and the presentation of proclamations from the County Supervisors office formalizing Sister Cities partnerships between affluent and underserved communities across San Diego County. You’ll work directly with SCP’s Founder & CEO, Shawn McClondon, to review and refine messaging, ensuring these milestones receive the visibility they deserve. This role is ideal for someone with experience in PR, Corporate Communications, and/or Nonprofit Communications, who can dedicate 5-10 hours on a one-time basis. Key Responsibilities: Organize and coordinate two press conferences. Help refine and review messaging for the events. Garner press and media attention for both conferences. Ensure media coverage aligns with SCP’s mission and strategic goals. Qualifications: Strong background in PR, Corporate Communications, or Nonprofit Communications. Experience organizing press events and securing media coverage. Excellent writing and editing skills. Ability to collaborate directly with senior leadership. A passion for social justice and equity-focused initiatives. This is a one-time volunteer opportunity for someone eager to make a tangible impact in the San Diego community.

We are seeking a skilled volunteer with expertise in QuickBooks to assist with our bookkeeping needs. As a growing nonprofit, accurate and efficient financial management is critical to our success. Your support will help us better track expenses, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements for grants and to maintain our nonprofit status. Deliverables: Review and organize our current QuickBooks setup. Help categorize and input financial transactions. Provide guidance on generating financial reports. Offer recommendations for streamlining our bookkeeping process to align with nonprofit best practices. Skills Needed: Proficiency in QuickBooks (desktop or online versions). Experience with nonprofit accounting and bookkeeping. Strong understanding of basic accounting principles. Time Commitment: We estimate this project will require 3-5 hours per week (approx.). This project will support our mission by strengthening our financial management practices, allowing us to allocate resources more effectively and transparently. Do you want to be part of a change in the world? Sister Cities Project is seeking a volunteer to assist with Digital Marketing to help strategize, coordinate, and manage impactful online campaigns. Success will be measured not just by engagement but by the positive impact we make in bridging communities. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and offers hands-on experience managing social media, developing impactful campaigns, and using data to refine strategies for long-term success. Mission: Sister Cities Project is committed to bridging communities across racial and economic divides through education, engagement, and collaboration. We strive to foster deeper connections and understanding between neighborhoods, creating sustainable change for social justice and equity. RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate digital marketing strategies to engage community members across multiple platforms. Develop and manage impactful campaigns that align with SCP’s mission and goals. Help maintain the SCP website. Help manage social media presence. Create and/or facilitate blog posts and newsletter content. Develop and send out email messages via MailChimp. Assist in tracking, measuring, and analyzing data and analytics for the website, e-newsletters, and social networks to establish best practices, identify growth opportunities, and measure the impact of campaigns. QUALIFICATIONS: Strong interest in Sister Cities Project's mission and programs. Experience using social media and the latest social media tools. Experience with Wordpress, MailChimp, SEO, and PPC - ideal but not required. Self-starter who takes initiative. Strong communication and writing skills. Dependable, adaptable, flexible, and punctual. Strong interpersonal skills. Self-motivated and able to work well with little supervision.
