Sister Cities Project is seeking a Communications Professional (Volunteer)

Are you a communications expert who wants to contribute to impactful social change? Sister Cities Project is looking for a professional to assist with organizing, coordinating, and securing media coverage for two significant upcoming press conferences. These events will highlight major milestones for Sister Cities Project: the launch of our Equitable Schools Fund, which aims to create more equitable learning environments, and the presentation of proclamations from the County Supervisors office formalizing Sister Cities partnerships between affluent and underserved communities across San Diego County.

You’ll work directly with SCP’s Founder & CEO, Shawn McClondon, to review and refine messaging, ensuring these milestones receive the visibility they deserve. This role is ideal for someone with experience in PR, Corporate Communications, and/or Nonprofit Communications, who can dedicate 5-10 hours on a one-time basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and coordinate two press conferences.
  • Help refine and review messaging for the events.
  • Garner press and media attention for both conferences.
  • Ensure media coverage aligns with SCP’s mission and strategic goals.

Qualifications:

  • Strong background in PR, Corporate Communications, or Nonprofit Communications.
  • Experience organizing press events and securing media coverage.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to collaborate directly with senior leadership.
  • A passion for social justice and equity-focused initiatives.

This is a one-time volunteer opportunity for someone eager to make a tangible impact in the San Diego community.

Mission Statement

Sister Cities Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization created to partner affluent communities with underserved communities and create programs and events that build new relationships and deepen cultural understanding.

Description

The roadmap to racial equity is complex and requires nurturing a thriving community-based ecosystem. At Sister Cities Project, we're addressing racial equity and the racial wealth gap by formally partnering affluent communities with underserved communities. Through these partnerships, we foster meaningful connections and relationships between residents, and intentionally direct resources, investment and support into the underserved community. We deliver on this through our "ecosystem" model, consisting of three impact areas: Community Connections, Business Growth, and Workforce Development--all of which are essential to nurturing a thriving community.
