Give the gift of time to someone in need! Our patients live in their own homes and assisted living communities all over New Braunfels and the surrounding area. We are looking for volunteers to visit patients and provide the gift of time and compassion. Volunteers sit and talk with their patients, listen to music together, do art projects/activities, play board games, read, share stories and look at family photos. If you would like to make a difference in someone's life, hospice volunteering might be for you! No medical skills or experience required; our expert clinicians provide all medical care. Orientation to hospice, family dynamics, and grief is provided before volunteers begin visiting patients. A background check, two-step TB tests, and drug screening are part of our orientation process.

Here's the game-changer - as a volunteer, you'll have access to a computer, internet, Microsoft Office, and a printer. Study sessions just got an upgrade! Orientation, two-step TB tests, and a drug test are all part of the initiation, but don't worry-we provide the training, and no medical background is necessary. An incredibly meaningful way to get involved! You will be supporting the surviving family members of patients who have passed away by placing phone calls to provide information on upcoming bereavement support groups and offering other specific resources. You will also be making phone calls on the anniversary of the passing of a loved one to let the surviving family know we are thinking about them and available to support them. Additionally, identify (with input and direction of the Bereavement Coordinator) grieving individuals who may need visits or follow up calls from the Bereavement Coordinator. Optional opportunities may arise where the Bereavement Volunteer is able to accompany the Bereavement Coordinator on visits to surviving family members. Orientation, background check, TB test and drug test are required for all volunteers. Encompass Hospice covers all costs of medical tests, screenings and trainings.
