Volunteers are needed to help collect food donations from local retail stores! Drivers with a good safety record who can drive large vehicles are needed for these weekly pickups from local stores. Volunteers bring food donations back to the AWARE warehouse and help put them away so food bank volunteers can sort and prepare them for distribution. Driving routes start at 7:00am and take between 2-3 hours to complete. Pickups require some heavy lifting, up to 40 pounds. Volunteers are trained on food safety principles. Drivers will be trained to drive AWARE trucks and pick up fruits, vegetables, dairy products, breads, etc. No CDL license is required to drive a box truck but a DMV driving record will be reviewed. Other volunteer responsibilities: Maintain a courteous and professional environment for volunteers, staff, partner agencies, and community members. Sort food donations into general food categories. Manage product flow according to first-in first-out (FIFO) guidelines. Assist in maintaining cleanliness of warehouse and volunteer areas. Record order and inventory data as needed. We are looking for folks with Russian and Spanish language skills, but we are happy to hear from community members who speak other languages as well!
