Aunt Mary's Storybook, a project of Companions Journeying Together, bridges the distance between incarcerated people and the children most important to them, by recording touching audio readings of stories. Transitioning from cassette tapes to CDs, and now to a web-based system, we've innovated our delivery over the years to connect families in profound ways. We now seek a dedicated PHP volunteer web developer to join our current team of talented developers. Together, you'll enhance our existing system, bringing new features to life, and smoothing out any bugs. Your work will be instrumental in enriching the lives of those separated by incarceration. What You'll Do: Collaborate with other volunteer developers to add features and fix bugs Work with a codebase hosted in GitHub, built using CodeIgniter 4, and hosted on Amazon AWS Participate in team communication via Slack Skills We're Looking For: Proficiency in PHP and SQL Experience with CodeIgniter or similar MVC frameworks Experience with Bootstrap is a plus A detail-oriented approach to coding and problem-solving A collaborative mindset and the ability to work well with a team Requirements: Must be located in the United States Please note that we are unable to assist with obtaining or maintaining a United States visa, including an F-1 / OPT visa. Join Aunt Mary’s Storybook in designing our new Caregiver Support Newsletter, a bimonthly (every-other-month) publication dedicated to empowering caregivers of children impacted by familial incarceration. Your design skills will help us create a visually engaging, accessible resource that strengthens community and resilience among families navigating the challenges of incarceration. About Aunt Mary's Storybook: Aunt Mary's Storybook is a compassionate initiative of our broader nonprofit organization, Companions Journeying Together. We connect children with their incarcerated parent or loved one through the joy of reading. We facilitate a loving exchange where incarcerated people select a children's book, record themselves reading it, and then send the book and recording to their child or the child important to them. This simple yet powerful act helps maintain the emotional bond between parent and child during a challenging time of separation. Our goal is to foster resilience, encourage literacy and reading, and support the well-being of families affected by incarceration. Newsletter Graphic Designer We’re seeking a volunteer graphic designer to develop a visually appealing newsletter that's both inviting and easy to navigate. As a designer, you'll be responsible for: Creating compelling layouts for our newsletter content that enhance readability and engagement Developing a cohesive design style aligned with Aunt Mary’s Storybook’s mission Using platforms like Mailchimp and Canva to design and format newsletter issues for digital distribution Collaborating with our team to ensure that each issue is accessible and provides meaningful resources to caregivers Why Volunteer With Us? Editing: Ensure our newsletter maintains the highest quality and clarity to effectively reach and resonate with families.
