Do you want to make a meaningful impact on families navigating the challenges of incarceration? Join us at Aunt Mary’s Storybook as we launch our Caregiver Support Newsletter. This bimonthly resource is dedicated to strengthening the connections among caregivers who are supporting children with incarcerated loved ones.
About Aunt Mary's Storybook: Aunt Mary's Storybook is a compassionate initiative of our broader nonprofit organization, Companions Journeying Together. We connect children with their incarcerated parent or loved one through the joy of reading. We facilitate a loving exchange where incarcerated people select a children's book, record themselves reading it, and then send the book and recording to their child or the child important to them. This simple yet powerful act helps maintain the emotional bond between parent and child during a challenging time of separation. Our goal is to foster resilience, encourage literacy and reading, and support the well-being of families affected by incarceration.
For our upcoming Caregiver Support Newsletter, we’re seeking volunteers to help with any one or two task outlined below:
- Content Creation: Write engaging articles that offer tips, resources, and stories to empower and support caregivers.
- Community Research: Gather valuable information about resources, educational opportunities, and community events that can benefit caregivers and children that live in Illinois.
- Editing: Ensure our newsletter maintains the highest quality and clarity to effectively reach and resonate with families.
- Graphic Design: Design visually appealing layouts that make our content accessible and engaging through platforms like Mailchimp and Canva.
Why Volunteer With Us? By volunteering, you'll directly contribute to enhancing the well-being of children and caregivers affected by familial incarceration. Your skills will help provide them with knowledge, tools, and a sense of community, making a profound difference in their lives.
How to Get Involved: If you’re passionate about making a difference and have skills in writing, editing, research, or design, we’d love to hear from you! Please reach out today.
By working collaboratively, we can continue to create stronger family ties through the power of reading and literacy.
(Please note that we are only able to recruit prospective volunteers that are located in the United States. In addition, we are unable to assist with obtaining or maintaining a United States visa, including an F-1/OPT visa. Because this opportunity is conducted remotely, we are also unable to offer community service hours verification for court, school, or scholarship purposes.)
