Study Abroad Applicant Interviewer

Do you have previous experience with intercultural exchange, either as a student or host family? Would you like to help make a difference in the world? Youth for Understanding (YFU) is looking for volunteers to help interview potential study abroad students. YFU is one of the world's largest and most respected international exchange organizations. Our exchange programs include both American and international students in over 60 countries worldwide! Interviewers will receive assignments to be completed either in-person or via apps such as Zoom or Skype. They will be asking questions to discover the student’s interest in studying abroad, learn about their personality, and determine their readiness for an exchange program. This is an on-going project throughout the year as we focus on different programs and scholarship students. Note: In Dec/Jan, groups of 5-10 applicants may be assigned to volunteers at one time to be interviewed over a 2-week period.

Virtual Orientation Facilitator

Youth for Understanding (YFU) is looking for volunteers to help facilitate orientations for our students, parents, and host families. YFU is one of the world's largest and most respected international exchange organizations. Our exchange programs include both American and international students in over 60 countries worldwide! Facilitators will lead discussions and activities based on YFU USA's well-established curriculum for various participants including students, parents, and host families. YFU USA offers multiple types of orientations that take place throughout the year. These are designed to give participants the tools they need to have a healthy and successful exchange experience. As a facilitator, you are meant to guide participants, prompt discussion, and be a first-level resource.

Study Abroad Scholarship Essay Evaluator

Do you enjoy reading? Would you like to help make a difference the world? Youth for Understanding (YFU) is looking for volunteers to help evaluate essays written by potential study abroad students. YFU is one of the world's largest and most respected international exchange organizations. Our exchange programs include both American and international students in over 60 countries worldwide! Evaluators will read three brief essays written by student applicants and score them based on a series of important factors that would make them a successful exchange student. Volunteers are expected to evaluate essays from 2-5 students weekly, depending on availability.

A non-profit international educational organization with partners in more than 60 different countries, Youth For Understanding is one of the world’s oldest, largest and most respected intercultural exchange program. More than 250,000 students and their host families have benefited from the support and expertise of YFU. The YFU global network is united by the belief that full cultural immersion is the most effective means to gain the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly multicultural, interconnected and competitive global society. YFU is different from other intercultural exchange organizations because of our thorough preparation and program support that’s backed by a global team of volunteers, Our volunteers run orientations, conduct interviews, support students and serve as a YFU ambassador within their own communities. When you join YFU, you become a part of a 1500 volunteers nationwide who help students grow and discover their inner selves.

We have hosted three students so far and counting. This is a wonderful opportunity to give a teen a chance to learn more about America. It also give us a chance to learn more about their culture. The best part is we have sons and daughters around the world!!! We absolutely love hosting and each year our family grows!! I recommend this so much!!

Is promoting World Peace important to you? Do you long to improve American image overseas? Volunteers with YFU make a difference! Guide youth from many countries and get to make a positive impact on the lives of American families and International Exchange students. Volunteers may focus on inspiring American teens in an exchange year overseas, or to be a resource for American families hosting a student. YFU is a founding member of the CSIET STANDARDS, works under US State Department. Volunteers are a friendly group of people who are lucky enough to make WORLD PEACE happen every day. Volunteers can help in many ways. Best of all: Families are the backbone of YFU; they select a great teen to be their child for a school year. I have been a host mother with YFU 7 times, hosting youth from Uruguay, Finland, Estonia, Japan, Thailand, and Germany. The practical and emotional support has been what we needed every time. My daughter went to Finland! Every teen we host loves our USA.
