Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa

When I first joined Big Brothers Big Sisters, my son and I volunteered to mentor a Little Sister as a Family Match. We had a great time roller skating, going to the Farmer's Market, and the Playhouse. It was a great way to spend time together yet teach my son to look beyond himself. It really made him realize he too had something to give. Now that our family has expanded I am a Big Sister in the School Based Program. It is so rewarding to see the improvements my Little is making in school and how much she enjoys doing things together like a picnic on the playground or arts and crafts. It is an hour a week I can forget about what is going on in my life and make a difference in hers! I highly recommend this program!

Each week I am able to visit my Little Sister for an hour and feel like a kid again. It's great to see her face light up when I walk into her classroom. Although she's shy, I can tell she enjoys the time we spend together. We often just play games and talk during the hour we have together. I can honestly say, I enjoy each visit I have with her. She has taught me just as much, if not more, than I have taught her. I am constantly recommending my friends join this program as well.
