YOU can make a difference for our patients that are nursing home residents in Sussex County. Our hospice organization is seeking volunteers who want to help those with life limiting illness by providing comfort, support, care and compassion. Being a hospice volunteer is simple, yet profoundly rewarding. There is no medical or personal care involved - just caring from the heart! Visits are based on your schedule and are always close to your home. You receive extensive support and training from us and join a network of caring and committed volunteers. YOU can be that difference by... Providing companionship (from simple conversations to exploring deep feelings) Reading aloud or listening to music together Looking at photos together and sharing memories (life review) Journaling (helping the patient record their history) Watching movies or playing games Sharing a quiet moment Simply being present Contact us today to learn more about this life-changing opportunity. Our hospice organization is in need of volunteers with wonderful knitting and crocheting skills for our We Honor Veterans program. Volunteer knitters and crocheters create lap blankets for our hospice patients who are Veterans. The lap blankets are presented to our Veteran patients during Veteran ceremonies, which provides the opportunity to thank our Veteran patients for their service. Our Veteran patients love receiving these hand-made gifts. You will be creating a touching memento for our Veteran patients and their family members that they can cherish for a lifetime. We can provide all of the supplies necessary to make these lap blankets. Knitters and crocheters can select the pattern of their choice. Our hospice organization needs compassionate volunteers to provide caregiver relief visits to support the families of our patients in the Dover area and throughout central Delaware. Being a hospice volunteer is simple, yet profoundly rewarding. There is no medical or personal care involved - just caring from the heart! Caregiver relief visits are based on your availability and are always close to your home. Caregiver relief visits allow a patient's caregiver to go to a doctor appointment or run necessary errands so that they can continue to take care of themselves while also caring for their loved one. Caregiver relief visits are 1-3 hours and include you sitting with the patient to provide a supportive presence so the patient is not alone while their family member is out of the house. During these visits you can simply sit with the patient, chat, read, or play cards or checkers with the patient. For more information about volunteering contact Rebekah Welch, Volunteer Coordinator, at 302-533-3800 or rebekahwelch@accentcare.com For more information about ChristianaCare in collaboration with Delaware AccentCare (formerly Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care of Delaware) please visit www.accentcare.com
