Ele's Place is a nonprofit, community-based organization with a mission to create awareness of and support for grieving children and their families serving families from Washtenaw County and surrounding areas. Through peer support group programs, Ele's Place helps children and caregivers to cope with the death of a parent, sibling or other close family member or friend. Ele's Place is a warm and welcoming environment that serves as a community resource for children and their families to receive grief support. Children and families learn coping skills, process their grief, and receive peer support by being around others who really understand how they feel. The children who participate in these groups range in age from 3 - 18. They come from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances, but all are grieving the death of a person. Through the Ele's Place peer support group program, these children have the opportunity to grieve in a healthy manner and learn how to cope with the many challenges and changes in their lives following their loss. We are seeking compassionate people of diverse backgrounds to volunteer as support group facilitators in our children's bereavement support group program in Ann Arbor. Volunteers must be 19 years old and willing to complete the volunteer training program. Support group facilitators work in teams to facilitate grief activities. Facilitators have the opportunity to develop skills in teamwork, communication and empathy, and to build knowledge and experience in childhood bereavement. We are excited to announce our Summer 2024 Volunteer Training! The details are as follows: Session 1: Tuesday July 16, 5:30-9PM, via Zoom Session 2: Wednesday July 17, 5:30-9:00PM, via Zoom Session 3: Tuesday July 23, 5:30-9:00PM, in person at Ele's Place Ann Arbor Session 4: Tuesday July 30, 5:30-9:00PM, in person at Ele's Place Ann Arbor To review more about our volunteer opportunities, please visit: https://www.elesplace.org/branch-locations/ann-arbor/volunteer If you have questions or would like to request a volunteer application, please contact Meghan Thiel, LMSW, Associate Program Director at 734-929-6640 or email at mthiel@elesplace.org You can also complete a volunteer application on our website: https://www.elesplace.org/about/get-involved/sign
