These services are a free, reliable, and trusted source for preparing tax returns. Each filing season, volunteers prepare federal and state returns. This service helps: People with low or moderate income, persons with disabilities, the elderly Immigrant and refugee community members of Portland and limited English-speaking taxpayers Position Summary: Do you pay great attention to detail? Quality Reviewer volunteers will review each tax return completed by volunteer tax preparers, correct errors, ensure that every taxpayer receives top quality service, and provide substantive tax knowledge and guidance to volunteers. Quality Reviewers can also assist the Site Coordinators by answering basic volunteer questions regarding the software or filing process. Some of the languages our clients speak include Vietnamese, Russian, and Spanish, so language skills are a plus! However, interpretation services will be provided when needed. We are looking for volunteers with experience and knowledge of filing for previous tax years. This can look like volunteering for Tax Year 2023 or 2022 at a VITA clinic or having experience filing taxes professionally. IRCO will provide training resources/courses for the 2024 Tax Year certification. Position: Food Pantry Support Volunteer Program Area: Hunger Relief Locations and schedules: Oliver P Lent Elementary School - 5105 SE 97th Ave, Portland, OR 97266 - Mondays 1:00-5:00pm Earl Boyles - 10822 SE Bush St, Portland, OR 97266 - Tuesdays 1:00 -5:15pm Mill Park Elementary School - 1900 SE 117th Ave, Portland, OR 97216 - Tuesdays 1:00 -5:15pm Parkrose Middle School - 11800 NE Shaver St, Portland, OR 97220 - Thursdays 2:00-5:15pm Menlo Park Elementary School - 12900 NE Glisan St, Portland, OR 97230 - Thursday 12:00-4:00pm Program Description: TheHunger Relief program works with the Oregon Food bank and other organizations to help support people and communities facing food insecurity in Portland. We currently support 16 food pantries in the Portland Metro Area and reach approx. 600 people per week. Position Summary: The primary audiences that the volunteer will be serving are immigrants, refugees, and low-income families in our school communities. We prioritize volunteers who can commit to an ongoing, regular schedule. Food pantry volunteers will be assisting with the following tasks including but not limited to: Load and unload food truck deliveries. Sort and bag produce and other food items. Set up tables for food items and organize items as directed. Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked pantry free of debris at end of volunteer shift. Help to move and organize food to prepare the pantry for families that shop. Welcome and interact with shoppers in a friendly manner. Help shoppers understand and follow quantity limits to ensure all families have equal access. Training will be provided to volunteers through videos and while performing tasks. Qualifications: No previous experience required. Multilingual candidates are welcomed to apply - ability to speak Standard Chinese/ Mandarin is a huge asset as many of the shoppers are from this community. Have effective communication skills. Be a team player, collaborate well with others, and demonstrate a positive attitude. Be punctual, follow directions well, and carry out the commitments of the position. Follow all food health and safety guidelines and requirements. Maintain food preparation tools, including cleaning and disinfecting instruments and equipment before and after use. Time Commitment: We are looking for dedicated volunteers that can commit to 1 day a week for a minimum commitment of 3 months. Youth Experiencing Homelessness Program is designed with the needs of young people aged 18-25 in mind, providing a warm and welcoming space where they can feel safe and supported. The program operates at IRCO Sokhom Tauch Community Center, where participants can enjoy physical activities while accessing support. The program offers not just resources but also fosters a sense of community and connection. Our dedicated volunteers are the heart of this initiative with the support of IRCO Program staff. They create a friendly atmosphere, assist with check-ins, distribute resources, and connect participants with the services they need. By building trust and providing a listening ear, volunteers help each young person feel valued and seen Many of these youth are navigating a transition period, seeking stability, connection, and guidance. Our volunteers play a crucial role in linking them to vital resources and a sense of belonging, making a real difference in their lives during this important time. We are seeking dedicated volunteers to support our program in three key roles: 1. Front Desk/Sign-In Volunteers: Greet and check in participants, ensure proper sign-in procedures, track attendance, and assist with registering new participants. Your warm welcome helps create a sense of belonging, ensuring that all youth feel seen and supported from the moment they arrive. 2. Food Distribution Coordinators: Manage the setup, distribution, and safe handling of food/snacks, ensuring all participants have access and monitoring any dietary restrictions or food allergies. By providing nutritious snacks, they help meet basic needs, creating a safe and caring environment for participants. 3. Resource Distribution/Support: Assist in distributing informational resources, flyers, or materials on health, education, or local services, and guide participants to appropriate resources based on their needs. Some of the languages our clients speak include Vietnamese, Russian, and Spanish, so language skills are a plus! However, interpretation services will be provided when needed. Tax Law certification is required for this position, and volunteers will be supported in this training, including the use of electronic filing software. IRCO will provide training resources/courses for certification and use of Tax Slayer software. Position: Mill Park Elementary SUN Extended Day Program Volunteer Program Area: Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN Community Schools) Location: Mill Park Elementary - 1900 SE 177th Ave, Portland, OR 97216 Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 3:30pm - 5:30pm. Program Description: Mill Park SUN programs serve to support Mill Park Elementary students and families through academic partnerships, extended day programming, and wrap around services. Volunteers at Mill Park are integral to the well-being of our community. Whether it is leading reading groups, running a chess club, or serving food and drink at one of our community events, IRCO volunteers partnered with Mill Park make direct connections with students, families, and staff for positive community outcomes. Current Mill Park SUN program operations include SUN School Extended Day Programming, Mill Park Food Pantry. Position Summary: Mill Park’s SUN Extended Day Program provides enrichment and academic services to enrolled Mill Park Elementary students. Volunteers will be involved with facilitating small-groups and classes through activities such as Open Gym, Cooking, Arts and Crafts and many more! Mill Park volunteers will regularly engage in face-to-face communication with students and/or parents. Volunteers work under a SUN Site Manager. Volunteers may facilitate groups and classes depending on program needs. Volunteers may help students with academics, math, science, and literacy lessons, as well as with group games and activities. Our school is looking for volunteers that are culturally diverse and responsive, with a strong capacity to listen and grow with our students. Volunteers should have an interest in early childhood education. Qualifications High School degree or equivalent is preferred. Experience working in the field may be considered as equivalent. Bilingual/bicultural applicants are encouraged to apply. Enthusiastic attitude and passion for education. Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures. Those with interest in cooking instruction must provide up-to-date Food Handler’s Certification. Time Commitment: Volunteers facilitating groups will be expected to commit at least 8 weeks per term, with a 1 day/week minimum requirement of attendance. Volunteers may choose one or multiple terms they would like to volunteer for (spring, summer, winter, fall). Program days run from 3:30 - 5:30pm, Monday - Thursday.
