As an organization that serves deaf and hard-of-hearing clients, we frequently have meetings and events where we need the assistance of people certified in ASL. If this is a skill you possess, we would love to be able to reach out to you to see if you are available and interested in interpreting one-on-one for client meetings, Check In Tables at events, and for volunteers who are deaf and want to help at our events and projects. We also utilize ASL Interpreters to provide on-stage interpretation during presentations and event programs. If you are certified in ASL and want to volunteer to use this skill, we would love to have you join us!

Raisers host (aka foster) puppies and dogs in their homes while they grow up and get trained in. Hosting can be as short as one week, as long as two years, and anything in between! It is your choice how long you agree to host a dog in your home for our program. You choose dogs to bring into your home based on: dates they are looking for hosts, length of hosting need, how old they are, and what city they are located in. We have amazing trainers to teach you how to raise and train a future assistance dog. Raisers will learn positive reinforcement training techniques in class once a month and get comfortable taking the puppy on public outings (to places like stores and libraries) three times a week. Can Do Canines covers the costs of the dog food, vet visits, and monthly preventatives! Volunteers in this program should live near (or be willing to drive to) the Twin Cities area or Eau Claire, WI to pick up and drop off dogs, to attend training classes once a month, and to bring dogs to receive vet care at our facility in New Hope, MN. By helping as a Raiser for a future assistance dog, you are enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities. These dogs will grow up to bring their people more freedom, independence and peace of mind. Plus, you get to snuggle with a life-changing dog!
