Mentoring a Parent in the TTS Program

Mentor Program Outline: Step 1: Identification of Mentor and Mentee Preferences: Each mentor and mentee select three preferred areas of focus from the provided list: General life skills Budgeting, debt management, self-regulation Time management, daily structure Self-care (exercise, journaling, relaxation) Career goals (job applications, advancement, resume writing) Family structure (child discipline, parent-child communication) Step 2: Mentor Skill Set and Obstacles Overcome: Mentors provide a brief overview (one to two paragraphs) of their experiences, expertise, and how they have overcome obstacles in their chosen areas of focus. This information helps mentees in selecting the most suitable mentor for their needs. Step 3: Initial Connection and Dialogue: The mentee initiates an initial phone call to the chosen mentor to establish a dialogue. The conversation during this call should lay the groundwork for the mentoring relationship. Step 4: First Meeting: Scheduled within one to two weeks of the initial phone call. Recommended to take place in a public setting conducive to conversation or via video call (e.g., Zoom or Teams). Step 5: Goal Setting and Accomplishment: Mentor and mentee work together to define and pursue specific goals over the next three months. Weekly email tips and suggestions will be provided to both mentor and mentee to enhance the mentoring experience. Note: The mentorship program emphasizes a one-to-one relationship aimed at personal growth and skill development.
