I can't begin to tell you the pure JOY your dog can bring to the day of a patient in hospice care. Your dog should be very friendly, easygoing, well-trained and able to handle groups of people. They should also have a soft mouth ( takes treats easily) and enjoy meeting new people and getting pets from strangers. Your dog DOES need to be a certified therapy dog. We can give you more information about getting your dog certified! These visits can be just as rewarding to you and your dog as they are to our patients. Your pup will receive A LOT of love from our patients! The primary focus of hospice care is quality of life through comfort, dignity and understanding. Volunteers can make a difference in someone's life by simply providing pet companionship in as little as 15-45 minutes. This is a meaningful and life-changing opportunity. Some patients do not like companionship but the minute a dog or cat comes in the room it is an entirely different story. At times patients will only respond to pet visitors.

Are you available 45 minutes a week? ACG Hospice volunteers can make a huge difference in someone’s life simply by being present. There are many ways to get involved with patients including reading the bible, magazines, novels and current events to patients that can no longer see. Patients and families request this service and volunteers are needed. All volunteers will receive training and patient matches will be made convenient for you. We serve our patients in the surrounding area in their home and nursing facilities.

Regardless of your level of musicianship or musical style, ACG Hospice of Missouri would love for you to share the gift of music by visiting patients on any schedule that works for you. When musicians play for patients, many times those who haven't spoken in weeks or even months find their voice to sing along and engage in other physical ways. Or they may simply be able to relax in spite of their health issues. ACG Hospice private bedside performances typically take place at assisted living facilities. This opportunity is ideal for those who play acoustic instruments (guitar, mandolin, ukulele, violin), sing or have small portable electronic pianos. If you have musical skills and can spare about :45 minutes of playing time, you can make a difference in the lives of patients or their families. As a volunteer musician you’ll never have to provide physical care.... just smiles and happiness! Music touches people's hearts like nothing else. Please reach out if you think you can help or have questions. There is no place filled with more love and care than hospice. We support our patients in their homes and nursing facilities.
