The Foster Grandparent Program, part of the AmeriCorps Seniors initiative, is designed to foster connections between older adults and children in our community. Through this program, volunteers like you offer mentorship, companionship, and support to kids who benefit from the experience and wisdom of caring seniors. It’s a meaningful way to give back and make a lasting impact in young lives. To qualify, please make sure you meet the following requirements: Age 55 or older Annual income below $31,000 (single) or $41,000 (dual) after medical expenses A strong desire to positively impact children’s lives Our Foster Grandparents volunteer between 10 to 20 hours a week and receive a modest tax-free stipend, along with paid time off and sick time eligibility. Volunteers also commit to pre-service and ongoing training sessions, which are designed to support you both in your role as a Foster Grandparent and in your own personal growth. Are you fluent in Cantonese and English? Would you like to make a meaningful impact in your community by supporting seniors who need language assistance? The Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs at Felton Institute are seeking dedicated, compassionate Cantonese-English translators to assist low-income seniors in San Francisco. These programs, supported by AmeriCorps, provide seniors with resources and community engagement opportunities. Many of the seniors we work with are Cantonese speakers who rely on translation to get interviewed to be accepted into our programs. About the Role: As a volunteer translator, you will: Help facilitate communication between program staff and Cantonese-speaking seniors Assist with intake forms, program information, and interviews Play a vital role in bridging language barriers to empower seniors to connect, engage, and thrive Ideal Candidate: Fluent in Cantonese and English Passionate about helping seniors and the community Reliable, patient, and empathetic Interested in social work, community support, or gaining experience in the nonprofit sector Why Volunteer?
