Respectfully celebrate patients who are veterans, recognize their contributions to America's freedom, say "thank you" for a job well done, and address the unique challenges that may exist in end-of-life care for military families. Primary Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following: 1. Promote and practive the Hospice mission and values and follow policies and procedures for OnCare Hospice. 2. Offer veterans the opportunity to choose from various services tailored for them such as companionship, recgonition ceremonies, life legacies, comfort services, family caregiver support, and grief support. 3. Perform pinning ceremonies for veteran patients. 4. Facilitate life legacy projects. Time Commitment: There is no minimum number of hours to volunteer, OnCare is happy to utilize whatever you are able to commit. Direct patient care is typically a 1-2 hour commitment per week in order to successfuly build rapport with the patient and their family. Timing is flexible. We can utilize volunteers any time of day or night, during the week, on weekends and on holidays. Educational/Professional: Successful completion of 7 hour online OnCare volunteer training. Training is web-based and done at your own pace. After completion of the online training, volunteers will complete visits with the Volunteer Coordinator until they feel comfortable performing visits independently. In order to perform pinning ceremonies, the volunteer must be a US Military Veteran or active duty member.

Our hospice patients are in need of fidget blankets to be donated! Fidget blankets provide dementia patients with a soothing sense of touch. The fidget blankets also provide cognitive stimulation to help mitigate boredom and prevent patients from interfering with medical devices or picking at their skin. Average size: 21" x 21" - ideal for laps Materials suggested: Fleece Minky fabric Cotton that can be washed Mixture of several fabrics that are soft to touch Some good items to include in a fidget blanket are: Movable objects like beads, spools of thread, zippers, or belt buckles Soft, fluffy objects like yarn, ribbons, or fabric swatches A pocket with something attached by ribbon or string A small stretch-coiled wrist band with an object attached Velcro strips Button-down shirt tops or ties Hair elastics Keys or jingle bells Donations of completed blanket can be directed to Allie Schjoth, Psychosocial Manager at 402-403-4330 or by dropping them off at our office in Omaha near 168th & Center.

Serve as a friend/companion to an elderly hospice patient to reduce social isolation and bring meaning to the life of someone in need! Primary Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following: Companionship visits - general conversation, watching movies, playing card and board games, knitting together, doing puzzles, painting Vigil visits - sitting bedside providing supportive presence to individuals who are in the last hours and days of life Yardwork and snow removal - at private patient homes Handyman - small home repairs, removing furniture, hanging photos Time Commitment: There is no minimum number of hours to volunteer, OnCare is happy to utilize whatever you are able to commit. Direct patient care is typically a 1-2 hour commitment per week in order to successfully build rapport with the patient and their family. Timing is flexible. Provide massage therapy for patients, with physician's orders. Primary Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following: 1. Provides gentle massages and therapeutic touch for patients in accordance with care plan and only with physician's orders. 2. May provide massages for family members and staff members, as requested, obtaining first a Release Form. Time Commitment: There is no minimum number of hours to volunteer, OnCare is happy to utilize whatever you are able to commit. Direct patient care is typically a 1-2 hour commitment per week in order to successfully build rapport with the patient and their family. Timing is flexible. We can utilize volunteers any time of day or night, during the week, on weekends and on holidays. Educational/Professional: Provide a copy of a current LMT license for primary source verification, and provides a new copy upon expiration. Successful completion of 7 hour online OnCare volunteer training. Training is web-based and done at your own pace. After completion of the online training, volunteers will complete visits with the Volunteer Coordinator until they feel comfortable performing visits independently.

The pet companion volunteer is a member of the interdisciplinary team with a desire to support patients and families in the Hospice program through visits with their companionship animals. Pet visitation takes place in patients' homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. Qualifications: We welcome all animals/pets for companionship including cats, dogs, pigs, miniature horses, goats, chickens, and more! Animals must be well-behaved, friendly, and up-to-date on all necessary vaccines. Time Commitment: There is no minimum number of hours to volunteer, OnCare is happy to utilize whatever you are able to commit. Direct patient care is typically a 1-2 hour commitment per week in order to successfully build rapport with the patient and their family. Timing is flexible.
