Our hospice patients are in need of fidget blankets to be donated! Fidget blankets provide dementia patients with a soothing sense of touch. The fidget blankets also provide cognitive stimulation to help mitigate boredom and prevent patients from interfering with medical devices or picking at their skin.
Average size: 21" x 21" - ideal for laps
Materials suggested:
Fleece
Minky fabric
Cotton that can be washed
Mixture of several fabrics that are soft to touch
Some good items to include in a fidget blanket are:
- Movable objects like beads, spools of thread, zippers, or belt buckles
- Soft, fluffy objects like yarn, ribbons, or fabric swatches
- A pocket with something attached by ribbon or string
- A small stretch-coiled wrist band with an object attached
- Velcro strips
- Button-down shirt tops or ties
- Hair elastics
- Keys or jingle bells
Donations of completed blanket can be directed to Allie Schjoth, Psychosocial Manager at 402-403-4330 or by dropping them off at our office in Omaha near 168th & Center.
