Luminary Hospice is seeking veterans to share time with hospice patients who are also veterans. An hour of your time will brighten the day of another veteran. Veterans have a special connection with each other - share that with a hospice patient. What does a Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteer do? Veteran-to-Veteran Vounteers provide companionship for fellow veteran(s) who are on hospice. These patients enjoy spending time reminiscing and sharing their common experiences with another veteran. What if I don’t have any experience? Luminary Hospice provides exceptional training for its volunteers. Hospice volunteers receive the same orientation as paid staff in addition to their volunteer-specific training.Our training covers hospice history and basics, as well asspecial considerations surrounding grief, ethics, and bereavement. Luminary Hospice is seeking volunteers who sing or play an instrument to share their love of musicwith a hospice patient. Many hospice patients have strong connections to music, whether it reminds them of a particular time in their life or simply brings them peace. Our patients are nearing the end of their lives and music can be a powerful means of connecting them to past memories or providing comfort. What does a hospice volunteer musician do? Volunteer musicians meet with patients in a facility or private home and sing, play their instrument or just play recorded music for a period of time. Volunteers are encouraged to interact with the patient, discuss music, or even play music from their phone. Visits are scheduled at times that are convenient for you. What if I don’t have any experience? Luminary Hospice provides exceptional training for its volunteers. Hospice volunteers receive the same orientation as paid staff in addition to their volunteer-specific training. Our training covers hospice history and basics, as well as special considerations surrounding grief, ethics, and bereavement. Administrative volunteers help our office run smoothly so that our staff can do what they do best: Provide the absolute best hospice care for our patients. What does an administrative volunteer do? Administrative Volunteers greet visitors, answer phones, file documents, and other in-office tasks to assist our office manager. Luminary Hospice is seeking volunteers to assist our hospice team with Bereavement Support. Luminary Hospice provides bereavement support services to its patients, and to families for thirteen months following the death of their loved one. Pre-bereavement helps patients and families understand the hospice process and the available support, while the more than a year of bereavement services to families provides education, one-on-one support, and memorial services to help with grief and loss. What does a Bereavement Volunteer do? Bereavement Volunteers play a significant role in the bereavement process for our families by managing administrative tasks and projects for the recently bereaved. Other tasks include making phone calls to families and assisting with our biannual memorial service. What if I don’t have any experience? Luminary Hospice is seeking volunteers to sit with patients during their final hours. In the last hours of life, a hospice patient may be unresponsive but is likely aware of the presence of a friend in the room. Vigil volunteers sit with hospice patients in their final hours and bring an additional level of comfort to them and their loved ones . What d o es a vigil volunteer do? Vigil (11th hour) volunteers provide comfort - for the patient as well as family and caregivers - simply by being present . Volunteers may play music or read a patient's favorite poems or scripture, or they may sit quietly beside the patient. The time and loving presence provided by a vigil volunteer is profoundly meaningful to our patients and their families . What if I don’t have any experience?
